A 22 Sruti Software tuner based upon "Just Intonation" that one can use to tune the frets of sitar and Rudra Veena exactly to the 22 Srutis. It is a small application with no installation hassles. Works on XP & 2000. For Vista DirectX8 is required. This upload features version 1.1

Bravo! A nice device. I will experiment with tthe sounds. Congratulations to you Beenkar! Could you provide more technical info regarding the frequencies? Can it be sustained?
Thank you very much...

Thanks for encouragement. The frequencies are as per the 22 note just intonation scale . It is possible to sustain the notes. I would enable it in next version if requested.

I am thinking of adding Saraswati Veena to the list of instruments as well if there is a request.

suvirmisra: Thanks for sharing this with us. I can hear the differences between the various notes and they do not sound off key to me. That itself is a point to think about and secondly, which of the various intervals when played sequentially sound pleasant. I will play around with this some more. The Sitar sound is very nice and pleasant.

Let me add some more revelations regarding the sruti bheda of various Ragas in Dhrupad and Rudra Veena.

For example, every one thinks that Malkauns (Hindolam) is a very single Raga with simple scale. They are invariable wrong, it is a difficult Raga when it is analysed and experienced at the Sruti level.

Here is the Malkauns (Carnatic Hindolam) at sruti level and can be heard on the 22 sruti keyboard-

Arohana- Sa Ga2 Ma1 Dha2 Ni2 Sa

Avarohana- Sa Ni1 Dha1 Ma1 Ga1 Sa

Now sing/play this raga with the andolan around the srutis .while descending using the sruti bheda for the gandhara, dhaivat and nishad -

e.g.

Sa Ga2 Ma Ga1 Sa, Da1 , Da2 Ni1, Da1 Da2 Ni 2 Sa.

22 sruti keyboard would help understand the use of these srutis absolutely clear and evident to all students.

Final Release of 22 Sruti Key board

I am releasing the final version of "22 Sruti India Keyboard" for
Vista.

It is a Dot Net version and took some time to build it up from
scratch.

Now, I would only be working on it if some feature requests are made
by the users.

suvirmisra, on which interpretation is your tuner based? On Dr. Lalmani Misra's?

This also under discussion here --> http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... rutis.html

I posted my comments on my attempted installation; I am afraid that they were negative.

Why? http://www.mediafire.com/?cmdmlcrii3b works fine on my XP SP2 - it is great! Thanks a lot! If nick H doesn't like .Net, it is his personal disliking.

By the way, Suvir, can you make a relative scale tuner (not a fixed (absolute) scale)?

tamilc, it is not just Nick H. Downloading and installing .net 3.5 is a big pain. I am glad and thankful to suvirmisra for giving us a version that works without .net 3.5.

It is a little more than that.

Imagine ordering a sofa, and when it is delivered you find the guys painting your room. "Sorry, but this fabric needs a different colour paint!". Be a bit rude, yes?

It is simply taking liberties to install unwanted and only vaguely announced software on another person's computer. It is just not a nice thing to do.

There we go. this is not a techie forum, and if it were, I suspect that people might be a great deal less polite than I have!

suvirmisra's link installs without all the extra MS rubbish?

Nick, I wanted to mention this before. I think I failed to properly acknowledge that suvirmisra has done a nice thing. As I wrote before I am with you on the massive install of .net 3.5 etc. but I want to express the gratitude to the author of the software for making it available to us, whether it requires .net 3.5 or not. In this discussion, I feel that .net 3.5 bashing somehow cast a negative spell on the wonderful voluntary offering made by suvirmisra. I do not want words like 'rude', 'not nice' to be even mistakenly attributed to him. And a very polite thank you is indeed in order.

I do run .net 3.5 on other machines and it is a professional grade software. I just did not have the patience to go through the install process at that time. I may get to it when I have some time and experience the .net 3.5 version of the product given to us by suvirmisra.

I guess it is an area in which I lack patience. Not being totally unpleasant, I have qualms about dishing out criticism for another's work.

My views remain the same, I do not apologise for them. Perhaps they could have been expressed more gently.

The last "people" to do this to me were Nokia, and the software wasn't worth it at the end --- perhaps the frustration builds up.

Thanks for feed back (especially Vasanthakokilam).

I would certainly modify the feature regarding tanpura stopping when the windows loses focus.
