Hello all. I am visiting Southern California for an official conference between Sept 2nd and Sept 7th. I will be in LA on Sept 5th. Any suggestions on local concerts I can attend on the 5th would be appreciated.

Regards

Chandan Kumar on flute is featured that day by the South Indian Music Academy

If you enjoy HM, Debashish Bhattacharya plays guitar at the Music Circle.

VK RAMAN, your sulekha link brings up another option - a Bharatanatyam arangetram on that day:

Bilahari,

I am guessing that The Music Circle and the LA Music Circle are two different venues. I do not see anywhere a concert by Aishu. I see Debashish on the slide guitar at the music circle though. I might catch that one.

I have not heard Chandan Kumar. Any info on this artist.

If i remember properly he is a flautist from Mysore, heard him once, is really good, and he is also the grandson of Chowdiah.

Mohan, the link you gave is to Indian Fine Arts - the sabha in San Diego.

The Music Circle holds mainly Hindustani concerts - and they are based somewhere way north of LA.

As others have said, there is a concert on 5th evening by Chandan Kumar. I'll try to make it to that.

I guess I have no takers for a get together in Los Angeles. I have heard Aishu in the past at least twice may be three times. I would like to hear Chandan Kumar. The good thing is one concert is at 5:00 PM and the other begins at 8:00 PM.

Here are my question to residents of Los Angeles. How far is Pasadena, Occidental College from Hoover middle school.
Do these organizations begin and end their concerts on time. This will help me plan.

appu, look in google maps. If Hoover middle school is the one in Lakewood, then it seems to be around 27 miles by I-710( 40 minutes regular, 70 minutes during high traffic times )

Mohan,

I drove by many of the fire ravaged places. It feels like a ghost town. Absolutely devoid of any greenery. Miles and miles of grey and black with remnants of what was once a community. Feel extremely sad at the toll nature can take. I even got out of my car and spoke to some of the homeowners. What a pity. The heat is unbelievable and I thought Chennai and Mumbai were hot spots. Boy am I wrong.

I hope the concerts are on for tomorrow. I am hoping to catch the 5:00 PM concert of Chandan and then drive down to Pasadena for Aishu's concert at about 7:15 PM. Very curious to check out this historic chapel inside Occidental college.
