Cool ,
So far great . Just wanted you to post few no's highlighting ugabhooga, devarnama and other kannada language imports . One of my favourite kannada composition is maharajapuram santhanam's ksheerAbdhi kannigE and another one Anayuka tharadhare??? (slokham like) where santhanam ends with muyyakka muyya ... pandari rAya. I have ksheerAbdhi kannigE and I dont have the other one .

TKG has contributed a lot in the realm of Dasara padagalu.
This thread would not be complete without some of his renderings.

I really think this is one of the BEST threads in this entire scheme of discussions - it is absolutely, purely straight, without digs and snides and an absolute wealth of information. Special thanks to those rich and generous contributors. I have also amassed wealth thro you...:D=D

AnugAlavu Chinthe- Dr MBK- Abhogi

I love this song for it's lyrical beauty. Dr MBK has provided the music which is soothing & he has also made the Telugu version and has sung in this clipping.

This morning I heard the following song on Worldspace radio composed by Shri Purandaradasar. The song starts as 'Yashothe Amma Etthikole( pl pardon my incorrect Kannada lingo) The song was very moving and it was too late before i could record it. Would be great if someone could post the song, its lyrics and meaning

Oh whew!! thanks...this downloading affair is blow hot blow cold job - what with the internet service providers having their whims and fancies...some take eons...but well worth the wait on tenterhooks I guess for all the treasure this thread has unearthed...Could the mediators provide one exvclusive section which says Library or Reference Room or some such nomenclature and put up all these links with a specified time for availability. Then one can straight away go there and begin the day's job?

I chanced upon this "GOLD MINE" from MLV- Full Purandhara Dasa Songs- A concert in New York during 1977.

It may also be mentioned here that MLV was awarded Doctorate for tuning & singing Purandhara Songs by Mysore University.

Today being MLV's birthday, it will be a feast for all MLV rasiks.
( I am yet to D/L these songs myself)

Cool,
Was steeped in RKS's hyAngira bEku--what a song, what smooth singing (TV program? the orchestra). Suddenly the pUrvikalyANi took over with ninnu vinA!
Could you kindly offer RKS's song in its entireity? Thanks.

Oh no, Coolji..dont you wind up....its been such a wonderful journey over these 8 pages and i cant have enough of those kannada numbers from myriad artists that I have been slowly downloading...I think this is perhaps one of the few threads that has had such a healthy interaction with no snides and sniggers that can dilute focus. Please continue filing the coffers..:)=)

Somu and PD! Worth waiting for, even if it is incomplete!

Some years ago, I attended an RK Srikantan concert, and towards the end, he sang Kanakadasa's "Varava kodu" in Kalyani. How beautifully he sang! You could see that he was himself enjoying every word of that composition in which Kanakadasa addresses Goddess Saraswathi as though she were a little girl.

Somewhere in the midst of the composition, RKS, with his heart obviously delighted at the simple but beautiful words, stopped singing for a few moments and remarked "You don't have to sing this song. The very words are music!".

Even today, that concert brings back wonderful memories. If I were given a chance to be transported back to that day and time and be in that concert but only be able to watch RKS and not hear him, I would gladly go back! The movements of his hand and head, the expression in his eyes, and the happiness he exuded are all deeply etched in my memory.

You see, when an artist sings for his own soul, he creates a music which is for a different world, a music not of this earth. That day, he created such music and how blessed I feel for being there!
