It is mentioned in the comments section as 'ganesha kauthuvam'. But, I'm not sure.
The dancer has danced so beautifully. The tune is also so lilting and relaxing. Thanks a lot for this video!

I think it is 'ganesha kautuvam' because her steps are so elephant-like. Sorry if the info is wrong.

This is a pushpanjali in Arabhi ragam, composed by BMK. It is popular in the Bharatanatyam repertoire as well.

Not that early - just a couple to 3 years ago! Don't let her dancing fool you about her age! She, along with Smt. Alarmelvalli and Ms. Malavika Sarukkai (and of course, Sri Chandrasekhar as well) are among the dancers who belie the adage that older = out of shape!

kauttuvams typically have sAhityam interspersed with jatis, and are composed on a deity from a particular temple. They were used as one of the invocatory pieces in that temple's nATya sEvA. (In this context, if I understand correctly, the navasandhi kauttuvams were danced as part of the nATya sEva before the utsava mUrti of the tanjai periya kOvil - the brahadISvara temple, was taken out in procession, to propitiate the gods of the various directions). In a traditional kauttuvam, the sAhityam is recited by the naTTuvanAr first and then sung by the vocalist. A piece sans sAhityam can not be a kauttuvam (or kavitvam as it is also called).

Ravi,
iRaiyaip pOTRip paNiya SoRkkaLum vENDumE! (Don't we need words to praise the gods?).
I imagine that with a veTRilai (betel leaves) filled mouth, they said 'kavitvam' in the beginning, and on hearing it, others started saying kauttuvam too :)

Add the evergreen Mrs. Bali to that list!

The video was a bit blurred and her make-up was different, thats all..
it was not at all a judgement made on basis of dance or shape... :)

Thanks a lot, krishnaa!
I am really getting addicted to this video! The song and choreography are equally beautiful. I don't know what to do! To see the excellent dance or hear the song! Thanks.

This one does have sahityam praising Lord Ganesha interspersed towards the end. I think in Priya Govind's video you can hear some sahityam towards the end. I danced this when I was a kid. My teacher called it a Pushpanjali.

In general, Pushpanjalis I have danced did not have sahityam. Kauthuvams have sahityam - the name does come from Kavithvam, meaning poetry.

BTW... sahitya in the end goes something like... "Aadyantharahitha ya ra la va sha sha sa ha ra gangaNa pathi nirenaa pranakulu Vighna maghna nimaghna vara sadguna gangaNa pathinirena Pranakulu"

Vinayaka or Ganesha Kautvam in Kuchipudi dance starts with " sarvam sthulatanum... " sloka.
followed by " jhem jhem tananata jhem jhem tanana takundari kitataka kukundari
jham tanam tanomta talangu taita taitaka takatai taka taka kukundari
tahaku jhamta talangu tadhimi taka dhit-talangumani veDalina shrI... ", it's a composition of Dr. Balamuralikrishna !!!

I used to see this song in Bharatanatyam style, sometimes it called " Pushpanjali " cause the dancers enter the stage with full-flowered hands.
I think that any song could be Pushpanjali, if they offer the flowers to Gods.
