Re: Sindhubhairavi anya swarams
Sindhubhairavi uses S R1 G2 M1 P D1 N2 S as the main notes. Of the extra notes, D2 and R2 are part of many key phrases, M2 usually appears for extra impact next to M1 in phrases like M1 M2 M1 G R1, S, but can also be used for contrast next to P in phrases like MPDMP. N3 and G3 are used purely for contrast in SNS and MGM ending phrases. The usage of G3 is very rare though and most of the time it is not used. I have heard it only once in a concert in my life.

Re: Sindhubhairavi anya swarams
Flute Mali (T R Mahalingam) had played all the 12 notes in Sindhubhairavi in alapana that too without causing any oddity!
I remember attending a Radio Sangit Sammelan concert of the maestro at Tagore Theatre in Trivandrum during the early seventies, where he played a RTP in Sindhubhairavi and had probably demonstrated this. As a very small boy then, I had no idea what my parents and rasikas were discussing with awe about this fete!
