Recitals of Sangeet Samrat Chitravina N Ravikiran’s compositions by eminent artists

Re-launch of Ravikiran’s Youtube Channel including Tirukkural Playlist

The featured performers are: Gayatri Girish, Suryaprakash, Chinmaya Sisters, Vasudha Ravi, Vishnudev Namboodiri, Sunil Gargyan, V.V.S.Murari, Ananthakrishnan, Trivandrum Balaji, Vijay Natesan, B.S. Purushottaman and Sunil Kumar. The event will be presided over by Honorable MLA and former DGP, R Natraj, IPS. The guests of honor are Sangita Kalanidhi T V Gopalakrishnan and Sangeetha Choodamani, Kalaimamani Srimushnam Raja Rao, both well known musicians and composers themselves. The program will include an invocatory rendition of Ravikiran’s secular “Literacy for all” song by select students of his school.

Chitravina N Ravikiran has been hailed by the world media as “The Mozart of India” and is among the most prolific composers in Indian music, having composed over 800 compositions in five languages. These include secular pieces on social topics like inter-religious harmony besides eulogies on Buddha, Vyasa, Ramanuja, Tyagaraja, Carnatic Music Trinity, Ramana Maharshi, Kanchi Paramacharya, Mahatma Gandhi, Sitarist Pt Ravi Shankar, M S Subbulakshmi and his guru Chitravina Narasimhan.

Tirukkural World Record:Besides, he has set to music over 1400 pieces of other composers including the entire 1330 Tirukkural verses in an astonishing 16 hours, an unmatched record in world music, like his first stage performance at age two. The Tamil Nadu Government honoured him for setting music to Tirukkural.

His works have been in Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada and include dance and educational forms too. Ravikiran has composed Geetam, Varnam, Krti, Tillana, Padam, Pada Varnam, Javali, Chindu, Bhajan, Kavuttuvam, Shabdam and introduced inventive forms like Swarakrti (krti form but sans lyrics).

International Productions: Ravikiran’s dance operas and contemporary productions have been choreographed or presented across the world by legends like Dr Vyjayantimala Bali, C V Chandrashekhar, Pt Birju Maharaj, Dr Leela Samson, Guru Radha and others. They include Ramayana, Mahabharata, Lakshmi Prabhavam, Vinayaka Vaibhavam, Almighty Trinity, Savitri, Cosmos, Illusion to Resolution, Panchakriya and Pushed to the Edge.

New Ragas: Ravikiran discovered a new raga at age two and named it after his mother, Choodamani. He has dedicated ragas in honour of great personalities including Mahatma Gandhi (Mohini) and Beethoven (Veetavanam). Other ragas introduced by him include Keshavapriya, Vaishnavi, Katyayani, Andhakarini, Shivamanohari etc.

Ravikiran is the first to compose in each of the 35 talas of Carnatic Music, the 72-mela-ragamalika geetam, explore concepts like "Schematic svarakshara".
