Mridangam teachers in Chicago???

Post by herozerohour »

Hello all,

does anyone know of Mridangam teachers in Chicago?

I would like to take lessons and learn how to maintain/repair my mridangam.

Please advise. Thank you.

There are a few mridangam teachers I know in the suburbs not in the city. I am seeing the post now, hope you found one already!

There is a software called "Swara Shala (Swarashala.com)" by some one who married an Indian, but looks like an American. This software (MIDI) plays like tabla for each tala. So, I have an old version(sorry can not share due to protection rights) and sing to merge tala and lyrics. This is just for my own pleasure and I am not promoting any thing or selling . Those who can not directly interact with a teacher, this avenue exists.

If a person wants to sing or play, with an aid to keeping time that is a little more interesting than the tickticktick of a metronome, that would be a good start for them. It would not be of much use in learning mridangam, though.
