Shall I continue the story as you would have done it!

At that time of intense agitation and panicky situation, I saw a light coming towards me..
Image
I could not make out who it was….man or a female….and did not talk a single word..
But there was a sudden warmth all round..
And on seeing the situation the figure realized my predicament and silently blew in to the petrol tank..
O! what a wonder! The tank was full..and the figure signaled me to sit in the rear seat and occupying the driver’s seat reversed the cab and driven me home..

While I was still in a state of astonishment ..

before I could realize what is happening..It has melted in to thin air..

I was wondering whether we are in 21 century ..

This is how people build up stories!!

Now it is clear that you do not believe in whatever you are posting :D
That is fine!
But I stated I am sharing my personal experience, not building a story.
I purposely did not continue the experience today since it may appear that I was creating a April first hoax!
I will continue tomorrow. Then you can add your own explanations.
But do not question my Honesty....

Cml..

I have taken the cue from some of the postings made here earlier..including your self...
If you go through the earlier postings, you can find them..
This is the way how some of my postings were mocked at...
I for one feel that every one have their own views...

As I told earlier, they are not miracles....they are what some people experience at some time or other...

Here it is now 2nd April..

Ah, if you asked any AnmIka guru, the answer will be that we celebrate All Fools Day all through the year, every single day. Only, being mere humans, we earmark one day for fooling others (forgetting how we ourselves are being fooled all the time by our worldly existence).

Just for the sake of it, let's wait out a few hours to get the rest of the wise tale... :|

Of course I wrote that..
but not to mock you but to explain how 'miracles' are created by observers which get incorporated into a mythology.
These are not personal narrrations of experience but of those who want to create an aura around their favourite icon!
As we read, our rational brain understands but refuses to believe it rejecting them as unscientific..
Though this is 21st century science has not bridged the gap between itself and Aanmeekam.
Each one of us have to struggle in our own way unravel the connections. One route is Bhakthi (blind faith).
The other is deep self analysis! I have chosen the later route which I will be recounting here honestly.
Yes it is April 2nd just now. My body is craving for rest and I must oblige. Will be back soon...

"" In my confusion i may have put out all indicators each contradicting the other and in my numbness my hands were not holding the stearing wheel steadily and perhaps my trajectory has been sepenting.
suddenly, i found a police patrol car acccosting my car and tappin g on the window asking me to stop and raise my hands which i should have done subconsciously. then the policeman..........took charge...."

Continued (not keeping you any more waiting!)

The cold deepended and the pain was intensifying starting to go numb...
The dissolving consciousness suddenly returned. There was a new vigour in the body.
I realized that I was lying in my lounge chair and had dozed off. Suddenly the panic vanished
and I knew that I can be free when I choose. I was only a 'sAkShi' of whatever was happening to my sukShma sharIram (astral body). I wanted to continue the game and observe the consequences.
But then full consciousnes was overtaking me and the scene which was so real started melting away...
When I opened my eyes and looked around, it was dark but the heaped snow ouside the house was glaring at me through the Window. The limbs were still aching probably from the residual cold from the experience.

I started my self analysis. Yes, it was a dream, but a vivid dream with each scene etched into my memory. I had not forgotten the slightest detail which usually happens with other dreams!
Is this an out-of-body experience through my 'astral body'? I was quite familiar with the vedantic literature of the three bodies (stUla, sUkShma, kAraNa), the idea which was not accepted by modern scientists. If any the astral body is not part of modern physics/physiology/psychology but belongs to a different plane of existence. There are no known techniques of accessing it though adepts could manipulate them at their will! I certainly was not aware of any such though I wanted to experiment. (If I succeed I will definitely share my methods with you all !)

If I wore my Shrink's Hat I could rule out the whole experience as a Delusion. But then it did not fit that model. The other scientific term is 'Lucid Dream' an area on which work has been done at Stanford University which were not accepted by the scientific peers. (I myself was part of a team at UCLA exploring Kirilian Effect decades ago which fell into disrepute folowing the fall of the Soviet Union) But it all fits in with the belief system in Hinduism. The literature however is confusing full of guesses and contradictions (too much based on Faith..).
The closest I came was from Gita (2.22)
"vasamsi jirnani yatha vihaya navani grhnati naro 'aparani
tatha sarirani vihaya jirnany anyani samyati navani dehi"
Even Acharya (or Ramanuja) have not discussed in detail the inner meaning of this verse explicitly.
Madhusudana Saraswati provides a very mundane explanation minimizing the philosophical implications. In case if any of you know better I will be much obliged.
My experience continued the following week which is more realistic that I will share later. Now I will pause for your comments, questions and discussions.

Govindan,
You are the one who can help us with the interpretations or ambiguities of the gItA quote.

CML,
Idu enna?
Something similar to what people say they experience during/after a surgery where they believe they had died and were in a different place but for some reason came back to life on earth. They speak of such tranquility of the place they briefly visited.

Am I making any sense in my wondering about what happened to you or am I way away from what you are trying to say?

Nothing special about my experience. It happens in the life of everybody several times . Either we pay no attention or ignore it due to rationalization. There is no explanation in Western Science, nor do they (or those brainwashed) in their Semitic philosophy accept them. Our ancients understood the phenomena but kept the knowledge very private. There is no need to give it a religious varnish! For that matter I am not a religious person either. I believe we have not fully explored our human potential which billions of years of evolution has bestowed on us! I believe it is a mystery like Dark Energy. I too am groping in the dark like a few who are equally puzzled. I thought I would share my experience and ideas with a few kindred souls who may steer me in the right direction!

TO BE OR NOT TO BE...

Forgetfulness of the Self happens because of non-enquiry. So I say, ‘Remove the forgetfulness through enquiry’. Forgetfulness or non-forgetfulness is not a part of your destiny. It is something you can choose from moment to moment. That is what Bhagavan said. He said that you have the freedom either to identify with the body and its activities, and in doing so forget the Self, or you can identify with the Self and have the understanding that the body is performing its predestined activities, animated and sustained by the power of the Self.

If you have an oil lamp and you forget to put oil in it, the light goes out. It was your forgetfulness and your lack of vigilance that caused the light to go out. Your thoughts were elsewhere. They were not on tending the lamp.

In every moment you only have one real choice: to be aware of the Self or to identify with the body and the mind. If you choose the latter course, don’t blame God or God’s will, or predestination. God did not make you forget the Self. You yourself are making that choice every second of your life.

vAsAMsi jIrNAni yathA vihAya navAni gRhNanti narOparANi
tathA SarIrANi vihAya jIrNAnyanyAni saMyAti navAni dEhi

Arasi,
With great reluctance, I am trying to respond to your exhortation. If there are any factual errors, kindly pardon me.

IMHO, the operative word is 'dEhi' - generally translated as 'embodied'. This 'dEhi' is the one who keeps on donning and discarding bodies till he gets rid of 'ignorance' which causes this donning and discarding. This 'dEhi' is the one referred in mahAvAkyas as 'tvam' in 'tattvamasi', as 'ahaM' in 'brahmaivAhaM' and 'sOhaM'. Pinning down this 'dEhi' is considered the ultimate goal of all upanishadic teachings - well one cannot actually 'pin' him down as a perceivable object - He being the perceiver. At least that is what the treatises inform us. But, what is essential is 'aparOkshAnubhUti' - direct experience or actualisation. It is not an intellectual comprehension that matters. Therefore, unless one can 'be' and not simply 'know', there is no meaning in uttering words of wisdom - which are not indeed wisdom. Therefore from that perspective I would rather not be impudent. (My 'know'ledge is intellectual.)

Regarding the 'dream' sequence of cml, I was going through Sundara Kanda of Valmiki Ramayana. In Chapter 32, wherein Sita sees Hanuman for the first time, there are descriptions about Sita's state of mind. This may to some extent answer the poser. Please refer to verse 9 onwards -

How fitting these lines are!

Thanks VGV/arasi/Vkailasam for your sympathetic participation.
Actually the reference to Bhagavan Ramana is quite appropriate since he is my inspiration.
His interpretation of the Ribhu Gita (Siva Rahasya) is the gateway to these exercises.
Paul Brunton has commented extensively on it.

Actually I am not interested in the word meanng of the Gita shloka which is quite clear. None of the commentators have captured the spirit. VGV is quite right that it is experiential and not intellectual. Hence words are futile.

I discovered that my experience is indeed part of 'sampraghyata samaadhi'.
vitarkavicharanandasmitaroopanugamat sanprajnatah (Patanjali YogaSutra 1.17)
(Cognitive meditation is accompanied by reasoning, discrimination, bliss and the sense of 'I am.' )
It was a samadhi where I was conscious of my self (asmita).
I did not know how I entered that 'region' since I was not meditating! Ever since I am trying to recapture that state, so far unsuccessfully.

The question is not Why but How!

My silly self is a boon at this stage of my life--
My playing with children like a child grounds me
In that I soar in the sky without a care--
Music aids, widens my vista for me to take in
Minute, but mighty glimpses of all God's creation...

Nature, music, children, the goodness in humans--
For me, for my miniscule life, that is boon enough :)

But you are no longer the girl in pigtails without a care in life that
flitted around like a butterfly. But you are a mother, a grand mother
worn down by the weight of age. The past is past, it is memory, a golden dream.
You can always visit them in the astral plane, but you have to live for the rest of life
in that aging disintegrating body till you dissolve into emptiness. Be there a Heaven or Hell
beyond.. who knows .. But the Self will accompany you always .. And should you not get
acquainted with That yet! It is Time..

It was around 17 years back..I was in a financial crunch after I married two of my daughters with in a gap three months..Absolutely, there was no income..
My last daughter aged 18 years has to seek a job for a meager salary, I have to maintain…self,my wife and the daughter..I do not want to recall the days..But I was a faithful devotee…not visiting temples …but prayers within myself…always uttering the HIS nama….

One day, It was an early morning..I was in my sleep still..Perhaps half wake and half sleep..
Suddenly, I shouted ..Look..look..He has come…There was a vivid figure Puruthi Sai..

Same time….you may not believe..there was a loud tap on the door which disturbed me from the sleep and getting out of bed opened the door to find a friend of mine standing with a pocket Of Milk and a
Full sized bread pocket

….Just imagine my feeling..It was around 5oclock …

After that my situation improved slowly..
With my daughter getting a better job by His grace..

With difficulty, my last daughter completed her MCA and is married to a Christian of her choice
And well settled in life with two lovely kids..a boy and a girl…
At every step, I could smell his Grace..
Such Incidents are Many in my life……inexplicable...

CML,
You are measuring it all by the pathetic number of human span of years, mon ami?
In that case, I'm afraid I will not know the way to the bOdhi tree, let alone have a glimpse of it, sit under it and start my search for attaining nirvANA.

naDaiyum thaLara, DEham oDunga, nAvadum kuzhaRum nALum varum--these things are happening and will speed up as I slow down, but to feel one with Nature, to see joy wherever I can isn't a bad thing.

Even sages who gave up all worldly things loved to listen to music, just as they loved the sweet sounds of a bird.

Here at Rasikas.org, we have enough accounts of the Periavar (PeriavA, PeriyavAL, no matter)--thanks to VKailasam and others--they all point to how connected the mahAn was with humanity.

Not all of us are capable of retreating to the woods to seek the Self. Above all, such beings on earth are far and few :) I am not one of them, as you very well know ;)

So what you seek is "pure" entertainment !
Time will come when you get tired of that!
For an experiment listen to the best Sanjay's concert repeatedly.
How many times can you listen to it. 100 times?
When you get tired you may even start to hate that!
But then there are other concerts...

One of my close friend a couple of years ago was an inveterate CM adddict.
All the time he would think of only CM and will not miss any concerts. Very often he would visit Chennai during the Season and immerse himself
there. I foud him too tiring during talks since he will not talk or listen to any thing other than CM!
Unfortunately he developed Cancer which was advancing fast. I did not meet himfora while while he was undergoing Chemo.

But when I saw him he was just a skeleton looking pathetic..
He was not interested in talking to me. But he mentioned that he was in total discomfort.
I told him to listen to his favourite CM to take his mind off the pain.
He started laughing and said that he no longer liked CM. In fact he hated it totally. Nor even prayers help him.
All that he needed were the pain-killers. He offered me to take all his mammoth CM collection
if I liked. I felt sorry for him but did not know how I could help him. He died a couple of weeks later.
I was thinking what I would do if I were in his shoes. I too, certainly will not be listening to CM.
Nor will I be praying to God doing a nama-japa. I will be spending the time contemplating the Self
who I never understood! I will not be praying for a miracle but praying for a speedy liberation!
I have no illusions that if I become a spirit I will be concert-hopping globally :)

I will be seeking that inner peace that is indescribable!

I can understand your experience. You have a fall-back Faith which comforts you.

It does not matter. I may be seeking internally!

What I liked from what I read.....

CML...For all your endeavours, perhaps a Guru is necessary..

There is nothing in all the three worlds that can be considered as comparable to the Sadguru who imparts Self-knowledge (Atmajnaana). It may perhaps be thought that the legendary philosopher’s stone would be a fit comparison, because it turns base metal into gold, just as the Guru turns an ordinary disciple into a realised soul. But even this comparison is not apt because, the philosopher’s stone does not convert the base metal into another philosopher’s stone like itself, whereas the Guru makes the disciple another Guru like himself.

The Guru is therefore incomparable in all the three worlds. [Sloka-1, Satasloki of Sri Adi Sankara]

Shri Guru Gita
Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Sakshat Param Brahma
Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah
Dhyanamoolam Guru Murti
Pujamoolam Guru Padam
Mantra Moolam Guru Vakyam
Moksha Moolam Guru Kripa
Akhanda Mandalakaram
Vyaptam Yena Characharam
Tat Padam Darshitam Yena
Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha

vishwam sphurati yatredam taranga eva sagare
Tattvameva na sandeh schinmoortre vijvaro bhava
Sraddhatsva tat Sraddhatsva na atra moham kurushva bhoh
Jnanasvarupo bhagavanatma tvam prakriteh

Thou art verily That, whither this world rises like the waves in an ocean. There is no doubt about it.

O consciousness personified! Do not be tormented. My beloved, O Handsome! Have faith, have faith. Do not be bewildered in it. Thou art Knowledgepersonified, Supreme Lord beyond the Nature (Prakriti)..If you identify yourself with the body thinking, “I am this body”, then you will
certainly not overcome by fear, because the body is subject to death. The body’s nature is o decay and die. Even the God of creation Brahma cannot stop inevitable death. But if you are able to realize the true nature of Atman and be able to abide in the Atman, you will become immortal and fearless, as there is no death for the real (self) Atman. Even death cannot approach Atman, as it is afraid of the Atman (self).

Many scenes of joy and sorrow will come and go on movie screens in the theatres. The screen has nothing to do with these happenings. Many films and scenes will come and go but the screen will remain unaffected. Just like that, declare with boldness, “whether it is favourable or unfavourable, whether it is pain or pleasure, what is it to Me?I am eternal Atman, I am Immortal. I am not this body, nor am I the mind of the senses.

Shudoham ….Buddoham….Nirangjanoham
pure…………, blissful………….., unblemished………………. Atman”.
” Do not be attached with the objects which you are seeing.

Be a witness to all the happenings around you and always abide in the blissful Atman and be happy.

There is no necessity to be depressed or dejected if some outward happenings are unfavourable. They may be for your own good in the end. If you remain established in your real nature: Atman, even curses will turn into boons. For example, in the case of Arjuna, the curse of Urvashi had turned into a boon for him when he had to remain incognito during the period of Ajnathavasa. Do not be afraid of any unfavourable circumstances. Always be peaceful and fearless. This ugly dangerous state of duality is merely a dream and it is temporary. Do not be afraid of it. Detach yourself from senses, beyond its vanities, it.s joys, it.s sorrows. Throw away all these hallucinations. Do not be influenced by them.
All power and glory springs from this fearlessness, so have tremendous faith in your Self. Then everything that is positive and true will come to you. Then nobody can daunt you from your journey. This highest peak of spiritual practice is to transcend the thought .I am the body................

In this third boon, the child Nachiketa requests knowledge of the secret of life after death. Yama Raja thoroughly tested the suitability of the young seeker to receive this profound knowledge. Nachiketa passed the tests admirably, so Yama Raja agrees to fulfil his wish.
Now we will discuss the profound knowledge revealed by Yama Raja, which forms the main message of the Katha Upanishad and which encompasses the whole of spiritual wisdom or brahmavidya.

KNOWING THE FORM OF ATMA
There are many differences of opinion on what happens when a person dies. One of these is related to the separate existence of the atma. Does the atma exist after the death of the body? Some say no. They reason that when a flame is extinguished the light does not remain. They say that this body is itself the atma; the feelings of happiness and misery are associated with the body; and so there is no reason to believe that the atma is separate from the body. In other words, this means that a mixture of pruthvi (earth), jal (water), tej (light), vayu (wind), akash (space) and other elements in certain proportions and ways leads to the ‘birth’ of an atma. Then, with the death of the body, the atma also perishes. So, the atma does not exist after death.
So, Nachiketa requests, “O Yama Raja, please clarify on this issue.”
The reply Yama Raja gives is a defining revelation in philosophy. ...

Here is an excerpt on Astral body by Swami Sivananda:

You first separate yourself from the body; then you identify yourself with the mind, and then you function on the mental plane, with this fine body just as you do on this physical plane. Through concentration, you rise above the body-consciousness; through meditation, you rise above mind; and finally through Samadhi, you realize your spiritual nature. These are three important exercises of Antaranga sadhana in the achievements of Kaivalya, the final beautitude.

You can, by mere willing alone, travel to any place you like with the astral body and there materialize by drawing the necessary elements either from Ahankara or the universal storehouse, the ocean of Tanmatras. The process is very, very simple to occultists and Yogis who know the rationale, the detailed technique of the various operations. Thought reading and thought-transference too can be quite easily performed by those who can function with the astral body. Concentrated mental rays can penetrate opaque walls, just as X-rays pass through the opaque body. This is one of the Siddhis (mystical perfections). Siddhis are not the goal of life. Do not entangle yourself in these Siddhis which mar your further spiritual progress. Shun them entirely. Continue your Sadhana and stop not till you reach the goal.
Movement of the Mind

After a short practice of meditation you will feel that the body gets lighter in a short time, say fifteen or thirty minutes after you have taken your seat on Padma, Siddha or Sukha Asana according to your taste and temperament. You may be semiconscious of the body and surroundings or you may become quite unconscious of the body. There is a great deal of happiness owing to concentration. This is happiness resulting from concentration which is quite distinct from sensual pleasure. You must be able to differentiate these two pleasures through the intellect, rendered subtle by constant meditation. Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation) have a power to sharpen the intellect. A trained intellect can comprehend subtle, philosophical and abstruse problems beautifully well. A disciplined intellect that can carefully differentiate the happiness derived from concentration and that of sensual objects will naturally run daily to enjoy this kind of new happiness derived from concentration. Such a mind will loathe at sensual pleasures. There will be extreme detesting abhorrence and positive aversion to objects. It is but natural. Because this kind of happiness is more lasting, sustained, self-contained and real as it emanates from the Atma (spirit soul). You can distinctly feel that the mind is moving, that it is leaving its seat in the heart, and that it is trying to go to its Yatha Sthana (original seat). You know that it has left its old groove and is now passing on a new avenue. As a result of meditation, new channels are formed in the brain, new thought-currents are generated, new brain cells are formed. There is a transformed psychology altogether. You have got a new brain, a new heart, new feelings, new sentiments, new emotions and new sensations.

Anahata Sounds: The Mystical Internal Sounds Heard During Meditation

Anahata sounds are the mystic sounds heard by the Yogi at the beginning stage of his meditation. This subject is termed Nada-Anusadhana, an enquiry into the mystic sounds. This is a sign of purification of the Nadis due to the practice of Pranayama. The sounds can also be heard after the uttering of the Ajapa Gayatri mantra, "Hamsah Soham', one hundred thousand times. The sounds are heard through the right ear with or without closing the ears. The sounds are distinct when heard through closed ears. The ears can be closed by introducing the thumbs in the ear through the process of Yoni-Mudra. Sit in Padma or Siddha Asana. Close the ears with right and left thumb and hear the sounds very attentively. Occasionally you can hear the sounds through the left ear also. Practice to hear through the right ear only. Why you hear through the right ear only or hear distinctly through the right ear is because of the influence of the solar Nadi, Pingla. The anahata sound is also called omkara Dhvani. It is due to the vibration of prana in the heart.

Of course..
Our body is an instrument. We have to learn to play it.
Instructions and demonstarions are needed from a Guru how to do it !
For example Vivekananda would not have received the spiritual awakening but for the inspiration from Ramakrishna paramahamsa...

A share from my friend

விமுக்தஸங்காய ஸதுத்தமாய I
