. We know that his first duet was with Smt. Susheela and that is iyarkai enum. This is his first duet with Smt. Janaki at the age of 23

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpiuZkV5hv8

I think this was not a popular song. Sound nice though

Thanks a lot Rajesh and ganeshmurthy. Ithe thaan naan romba ethir parthen. Unnecessary digressions took place in the mean time. What a better homage than ruminating on his immortal songs.

Rajesh, the songs you have listed are also in my wish list. They are all superior stuff made immortal by the legendary SPB. And you have taken pains to collate them year wise. That is Rajesh. Because your listing is restricted to solo numbers, you have excluded many beautiful songs like Ayiram nilave vaa. Perhaps that may come as a separate list.

What impressed me from the very beginning was the expression he was able to bring in his songs- like nobody did. He was the only person who could bring in laughter, love, happjness in his songs. Hence I enjoyed his duets a lot. I can make a very big list of his duets of 70s-90s. Due to time constraints, I am not venturing into that. I leave that to Rajesh.

Classical based songs in Sankarabharanam, Saptapadi, Sippikkul Muthu, Thyagayya, all have been made enjoyable by the legendary SPB. Many people influenced me by their negative opinion about Thyagayya by comparing that with the Thyagayya acted by Nagayya. Hence I did not see the film or listened to the songs. May be now I should visit that film. Ganeshmurthy, that Raman kathai kelungal in lilting Ritigowla is a favourite song of mine. The visual of the song adds to the importance. Lovely scene it was.

When TMS was already in the top and was singing all the songs for MGR, SPB could create an impression in the film Ulagam sutrum valiban- the song Aval oru navarasa natakam. A very lovely song and his voice is the sweetest in this song.
The list is very long. Let us celebrate his songs. I will chip in in between.

Once for a Hindi day competition in the office, I learnt and sang Tere mere beech mein and got a prize

On a side note, his house is very close to mine. Two streets apart and I used to go for walk in that road daily. Never I took the courage to barge into his house. I feared that he may be on tour or security will not permit me and all that. Now I repent for that. I should have ventured one knock at his doors.

Instead of chronicling his best , I am trying to categorize his best into different styles and genres.

Let me first add solo sad melancholy I will add a limited number every night that I may just want to listen as I go for a walk. That is my personal tribute .

A . Sad solo

1. Malayoram veesum kaaThu
the song where the hero feels let down with his belief demolished and he resorts to the love and importance of family over the flimsy love. The song lingers in your mind. Emotive singing at best.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sac2kEhQoNg

2. The song from mouna raagam

Mandram vandha thendralukku . Sriram's cinematography , Delhi night in a different mood , charecters all seem so delightful yet powerfully haunting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS6xcEsCkZM

3. Nilaave vaa from the same movie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWE0RXvFYp4

4. Naan paadum mouna raagam from idhaya koil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1sucEvICJo

5. The classic folk uchi vagundheduthu gives a eerie feeling. Quite a haunting folk type song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV0m2OCk6Ao

6. Theertha karayinile from Varumayin niram sigappu that has no music . The great poet S. Bharathi's poem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w7H89NUpI0

7. Nallathor veenai seithen . again from varumayin niram sigappu. This was the first Bharathi's song that I fully appreciated as I was young. May sound classic , but also a pognant singing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWxLj1KQVW8

to be continued tomorrow..

By the by , @ Crama ... if he had noticed you trying to meet him , he would not avoid. At the least he would say a namaskaram. I have heard of many instances... and once we crossed path in the shuttle bus in Mumbai Airport. I stood up to give him the seat , but he insisted " onnum illE ... ukkaarungE ukkarungE ... chinnE physical activity . .. neengE adhayum eduthupeenga polarukku" . However , I stood up as I felt not very comfortable. He forcefully pressed me " hmmm ... ukkaarungE ayyaa". There was mano , chithra along with him and they all were so smiling and covivial . Happy memory. Sad to recollect.

SPBSoloEulogyFromRajesh Part 3 of 6
=========================
All,
Just a quick thought. I just assumed if at all this below post was written by some one and i am reading it, this is what I would do. While each of us read, we may find 80 percent of the songs is deep in our psyche . we may not have time to rehear it so skip those links. But there is 10 percent song lists which either you are knowing for the first time (In my case #1988# song Penmai Enbathu or Prema Ledhani, which i only knew few months prior to SPB death ). Also you may have completely forgotten the tune ( In my case that one lovely runner up song called Yaar Thoorigai of #1986#). Those missed and completely forgotten , please hear the link in a quality sound setup in next 4 to 5 days. What i am doing is a mega useless restaurant catalog , you have to hear hear which is tasting that food. That is indulgence.

Since Rajesh is concentrating on solo I figured I shall make a list of scintillating duets. His duets along which were mostly with S janaki were amazing. These two singers complement each other in the way they soulfully sing and he accords her with great love and idolizes S. J.
He has also sung many good songs with Chithra , PS and Vani.
Let me not bring out the top charts like Sundari ... instead I shall try to bring out the forgotten ones.

1. Raja enbaar mandiri enbaar. . /ilayaraja music
Doleful singing by the SPB and a pleasing consolation by SJ . Used to be on the top of charts then.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoBCEV-faes

2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbKF95sE_Rw
Just to prove what magic and energy two powerful voices can create.
Ilayaraja music

3. Ilakkanam maarudho .../ MSV music
one of his all time best with V J . Remains nostalgic and fresh even if you listen to it 100 times.

SPBSoloEulogyFromRajesh Part 5 of 6
=================================

Covering Malayalam, Kannada, English
-------------------------------------
I covered lot of solos in Tamil, Telugu and significant Hindi . To find spb solos in Kannada and malayalam is difficult as his songs were quite a few . Also 2 songs in English and 1 in marathi is covered.

#1981# for Kannada
Kelade Nimageega | UdayaShankar| SPB | Illayaraja | Geetha | 1981
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIl0O1bH0aA
<<There is this very famous tamil song devadai ilam devi sung in tamil that came bit later in 1983 . This original song first came in kannada, i knew kannada version only after 2010. The two versions has the same tune but orchestration and rhthym was moulded differently >>

#1995# for Kannada
Umandu Ghamandu | Tansen | SPB | Hamsalekha | Sangeetha Sagara Ganayogi Panchakshara Gavai | 1995
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6479NNo7mH8
<<Out of five national awards , 4 are popular . This is the least popular . SPB sings as a hindustani ustad singer, certainly drawing inspiration from one of my favorite Hindi Music Singer -Mohammed Rafi >>

#1979# for kannada
Aakaashadinda | UdayaShankar | SPB | Rajan Nagendra | Chandanada Gombe | 1979
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOk3QT8N74g
<<Very recently only heard this song . SPB with that young voice of 1970s>>

#1969# for Malayalam
Ee kadalum Maru kadalum | Vayalar Ramavarma | SPB | Devarajan | Kadalppalam | 1969
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBI-d0nvZ5U
<<Searching SPB malayalam solo is very very tough almost gave up. I heard one solo in 1969 and one song in 2003 both only now after his death . I am forced to goto 1969, where SPB has sung like PBS. Initially disqualified as i was not born, but It qualifies as the only solo for spb for 1960s and has lyrics in malayalam >>

#2003# for Malayalam
Maine Pyar Kiya | Nadirsha | SPB | Vidyasagar | CID Moosa | 2003
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EgSJnapFCQ
<<The song is a string of hindi movie names of 1980s and 1990s .The talented vidyasagar is my madras school super senior which i knew only few years back. The malayalam movie song is not strictly a malayalam lyrics song. The song is a readaptation of the earlier Ekduje Keliye movie where spb sings a similiar theme, spb draws inspiration from Kishore Kumar and his yodeling. This is the only spb solo post 2000. >>

#1979# For English (Tanglish and Telugish)

What a waiting | ??? | SPB | MS Viswanathan | NinaithaalE Inikkum | 1979
https://youtu.be/3VkWtHdieBU?t=14 - Tanglish with significant english lines

What a waiting | ??? | SPB | MS Viswanathan | Andamaina Anubhavam(telugu remake of Ninaithaale Inikkum) | 1979
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oak402owlNA - Teluguish with significant english lines

<<SPB with MSV were musical hackers . They have attempted for the heck of it where they sang significant lines of what I would call as Part Time English Song. SPB joyfully sings in a classical gamaka with guitar background completely opposite in western . I wish the song was longer , but this is the best we have>>

You're like a fountain | ??? | SPB | MS Viswanathan | NinaithaalE Inikkum | 1979
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SndBh2rP67k - Only found the Tanglish could not find Teluguish equivalent
<<From the same movie , the song is bit like a famous spanish song>>

If you had desired only one winner in kannada and malayalam, I pick Kelade Nimageega (kannada -#1981#) and En Kadalum Maru Kadalum (Malayalam -#1969#). For English the winner is What a waiting . I only wish SPB had sung more English songs.

#2009# For Marathi
Nishigandh | Ilahi Jamadar | SPB | Harsshit Abhiraj | Nishigandh(Album not movie) | 2009
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAZCEyEuXiE
<<Found a song of SPB post 2000 timeframe for a marathi song.>>

What about other 10 languages??
---------------------------------
SPB sang signifcant count of songs in decreasing order of Tamil ,Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam songs. In Bengali I heard a duet of SPB . SPB has sung 40K or 50K songs in 16 languagues is what web says. In one of the interview SPB says 40K is very high number mine should be not more than 30K, I appreciate like many his humility and never overselling afterall in an interview when some one says 40K he could have internally smiled and said Thank You . For sure he is more than LataMangeshkar . Some say Janaki has 48K songs and Jesudas is 50K and more . Between Jesudas,SPB and Janaki they may likely finish in top 3 in an order that I am sure everyone is guessing inclusive of God .

#2000 to 2020#
After 1999 that i covered in detail ,there were just no song that satisfied my solo spb requirement. I was willing to reduce the quality bar but still no luck . Illayaraja magic is nearly gone. AR Rehman was also moving towards Jai Ho-Slumdog Millionaire Oscar that also did not interest me at all. The whole concept of producers approaching music composers for songs and then composer working with lyricist , singers and directors to collaborate itself died .Slowly from 2002 onwards the film songs itself went downhill .My interest in carnatic classical also went up . Forget about quality solos or duets it is even difficult to spot songs. SPB had voice for sure, music composers went chasing variety with fairly poorer quality singers and many were assembling and not creating music. The giant SPB did not have high quality music composers to match for atleast years 1999 to 2015 when he still had highest standards

Spb as Music Composer
----------------------
#1991# in Tamil
Vannam Konda vennilave(spb solo version) | Vairamuthu | SPB | SPB | Sigaram |1991
<<Spb composed and sang very few solos .This Song is great but the next one is better. It is a runnner up as composer>>

#1985# in Telugu
Mounam Gaanam Madhuram | Veturi Sundararamamoorthy | SPB , S Janaki , Chorus | SPB | Mayuri | 1985
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeuIrSww_SU
<<I am breaking the cardinal constraint of spb solo only by including just one duet for two reasons . Reason one is I like this duet over all other songs where he composed and sang as solo . The composer SPB gave a blend of classical ,western a typical 1980s film duet tune. The second reason for me to include duets is just in case if I dont have time to search and write on SPB duets say within a next decade - let the most accomplished and finest co singer S Janaki amma have the honour .She truly deserves as SPB himself has said most of his duets he would first hear janaki rendition and get more ideas from her >>

================================
Devotional Albums
-----------------
Many albums mostly devotionals were sung by SPB. I cherry pick only four, 3 i put right now and 4th as part of conclusion. Unlike Film songs where I am sure I cherry picked the best of best.In devotional albums there is a chance there is a gaping hole in my selection .

#1980s#
Ayar Paadi Maaligayil | Kannadasan | SPB | MS Viswanathan |Devotional album |early or mid 1980
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id_GgbuZje4
<<I personally heard this lovely song may be in late 80s or early 90s . Brilliant Lullaby that cut across caste, creed and religion with Kannadasan lyrics>>

#1980s or 1990s#
Sri Srinivasa Gadhyam | ??? | SPB | ??? | Devotional album |1980s or 1990s???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpujgsQ ... u.be&t=438
<< Got zappped with this absolutely soul stirring uphill rendition of SPB in mid to late 1990s. There is a garland of raganames, talanames , rivers of india etc.I particularly adored the portion of spb rendering just the different raganames. I have kept the above youtube pointer just there. Giving run for money for every established classical music practioners. This is easily my favorite devotional. Not sure of authorship . Some say The lyrics were written by Sri Sriranga Suri(lyrics has hymns and also different names of ragas rivers etc, so it may be a case of multiple authorship) .I am guessing the music composer could have been Pughazhenthi who was assistant to KV Mahadevan. India Music heritage in music especially is unfathomable as it is way too deep, and only SPB can illustrate all that in one go >>

#1993#
Krishna JanardhAnA | R Vinayakam | SPB | Ramesh Vinayakam |Krishna Janardhana(album) | 1993
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_4G2A-ShxY
<< The talented Ramesh Vinayakam used his dad to write lyrics ..Tune is simple , lyrics is damn simple even many of you can write . SPB is distinct with his trademark melody just cutely tossing different names of krishna>>

Co Contributors
-----------------
As i began to write , i did send to few select groups the url so that I wanted to double check if I had missed quality (not all)spb solos . Indeed i missed a few and I thank the co-contributors who helped me to identify the missing list of SPB Solos. They are in alphabetical order

1.Rangesh Rajaram( From Chennai)
2.N.Sivasubramanian (From Singapore)

3. Sriram Srinivasan (From LosAngeles,USA.). IN my opinion No one sings as close to SPB as Sriram does , with me even including so many singers who have even sung in films. Sriram sings in professional circuit mostly in California , he does not externalize much. To me Sriram Srinivasan is the next vaarisu of SPB . Most of the time Sriram tinkers with one language of SPB songs and does in another . Sometimes Sriram even writes few lyrics and sings missing illayaraja-SPB/KJY songs in songs that has a telugu/kannada/malayalam but does not have a tamil version. At your leisure hear his sound cloud that gives extremely distinct SPB pointers.

Check https://soundcloud.com/sriram-srinivasan-1

4.Tesla Ganesh (Chennai Unseen Friend, he is a Phenomenal guy). Tesla Ganesh is in youtube with madhurasudha moniker . He has not helped in the list but over a period of say few years certainly helped me find many angles in music which i was not even aware.

But this song MSV sings like ghazal and thank god significantly gives the whole song to SPB . They Say in one hour MSV creates 5 different tunes and singers also forget which tune to sing.>>

SPB Solos that followed as remakes From other Great singer Solos
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I just added this section just for the sake of adding some kind of SPBish novelty and angle .I am interested in telling to the world that even SPB who is a human can slightly fall behind other great singers in very very few occassion . SPB always created one singular interest for many like me . That interest was how does spb sing songs sung by other popular singers that have come from other language remakes, how spb sings one language vs other . This research is usually a core area done by Sriram Srinivasan ,check his spb hacking in his soundcloud url that i mentioned.

#1978#
andAla mulAku bangAru Chilaka (Telugu song of Tamil Senthazham Poovil ) | Rajashri | SPB | Illayaraja | Mullu Puvvu(Telugu dub of MullumMalarum ) | 1978
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVdg0z9aPgc
<<andAlu mulAku bangAru Chilaka is the SPB telugu version for the immensely popular Yesudas tamil version SenthAzham Poovil. I found out just after writing SPB death. SPB is brilliant, nearly giving a tough fight to Yesudas. This to me is near par to KJ Yesudas>>

#1981#
Konda gAla TirigE (Telugu version of Kodai kaala KaatrE) | ??? | SPB | Illayaraja| Madhura Geetham (Telugu Dub of Panneer Pushpangal) | 1981
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORdzeBrlWZA
<<The thamizh song Kodai Kaala Kaatre Of malaysia vasudevan is a great one . I thought SPB telugu version will be better . No luck, malaysia vasudevan did beat spb>>

#1987#
Chanda mamA (Telugu song of Tamil Raja Raja Cholan Naan )| ??? | SPB | Illayaraja | Rendu Thokkala Petti (telugu dub of tamil Rettai vaal kuruvi) | 1987
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m5VFScccIs
<<The Tamil song RajaRajaChozhan is the Jesudas solo was one my favourite . The telugu Version is sung By SPB. Recording quality is bad. SPB did not match that well with Yesudas>>

This is just to illustrate for greats like SPB few misses can happen after all we are humans.

PreConclusion:
------------
In music outside of classical say in film music from student days, My increasing order of adulation was for KJ Jesudas, S Janaki ,SPB and Illayaraja. If time permits may be in next few years as these living legends are going to be blessing us i feel like contributing writeups for each of these 3 giants .Their music will live for 2000 more years for sure .

At this point of time i really feel like immediately collating a rough draft in next few months about S janaki . S Janaki is musically as prolific as SPB. For every listener as we grow up ,generally male voices are so distinct and Sub consciously I(not sure on we) registered without ambiguity male voices .But for female voices it is so difficult to disambiguate in early years and even when you pickup sufficient disambiguation skills , the experience of tieing up singer and song is not firm. I hope to quickly refresh my mind to start first with S Janaki by disambiguating with other female singers which is the biggest hurdle to cross.I sincerely wish to write for S Janaki, that way we also in general appreciate female singers of greatest merit.

Conclusion with Last Devotional song
-------------------------------------
#1970s??# - 4th devotional
<<On September 26th ,2020 SPB was buried and not cremated in thamaraipakkam. I am told SPB belongs to LingadhAri Telugu Brahmins who take the Shiva Panchakshari Deeksha. They follow burial instead of cremation. His own Lingashtakam will be the best farewell>>

I and SPB both reside in the same zipcode in madras . I have only seen SPB once in 1983 to 1986 madras timeframe at a distance of about 50 feet in a public awards function .SPB then got a regional award in valluvarkottam. I have passed his home recently since madras became chennai may be 1000 times but never met him at all since 50 feet one time look.I have also not attended any of his live concerts.

Om shanthi to greatest Film Music singer and God of Melody SPB (Born June 04 1946 in Konetammapeta , Nellore District,AndhraPradesh, India - Died Sept 25 2020, Madras(Chennai), TamilNadu, India ).

This post is a deepest gratitude to mahAvidwan Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam, son of SP Sambamurthy and SakunthalammA .

The singer who has sung the maximum number of songs is Smt. P.Susheela who clinched the Guinness title for that. It was first conferred to Asha Bhosle and then to Smt .P.Susheela after retraction. They did not take into account her pre 60's songs , so the number is on the conservative side. This 40K 100 K and all highly exaggerated. One has to record 3 songs per day without weekend breaks, holidays breaks non stop for 40 years to get to 40000 songs. There might be days they sing 3 songs and there might be days they travel , stage shows, abroad trips, sick, breaks, acting , .... It comes to a logical arrival of 15K maximum. The singers cannot keep count of it. PS entered the guinness record for 16K but that could be also flawed. Where are the 16K songs? Even if you did a forensic search you can get hold of 3000 K for all these singers. Where are the remaining several thousands. Disclaimer: I am not belittling the greats here but merely trying to reason.

I think we are the only two contributing in this thread and I guess nobody is following it. But , I am enjoying your links and I wish to make a compendium of the filmy music of some singers too. My interest in film music has waned when I started learning classical music and was listenign to other genres . But I did not miss out on some of the greats like SPB, Janaki and PS .

Among the male singers THE spb stands out for his note by note embellishments .

It is for the same reason I love the multifaceted and soulful singing of SJ. The way she added beauty to every song . And above all for bringing in SPB. You never get bored of her voice.

And Susheela amma . I still have difficulty in digesting the kind of thin voices and head voices that goes awry at times with a thin upper register for female singers in cinema, especially when they cross E ( more in those hyperbolized singers of the north). ( This has also spoiled some beautiful tunes) P Susheela is the only voice that stood above the rest and she was gifted. The modulations were inbuilt. The strength of the voice from lower register to upper register is seamless, soulful and resounding even when she touches F or F-sharp. I have never heard such a soulful tonal quality till date anywhere even closer in Indian cinema till date , especially for the C , Csharp and D that the playback female singers sing. Every voice gets subdued when they sing with her.

It is sad that we not have such singers anymore. Looking forward to read more from Rajeshnat before I add a few.

Now for a little controversy! Not sure if this is public or open secret , but I have heard that few times SPB had call sheet conflicts and missed scheduled recordings. Heard Ilayaraja employed sing-alikes to complete it and it got released as well with SPB as the official singer. Even SPB wouldn't remember, but at some point this was found out and caused some friction! Any truth to this?

Fakeness is not just a Carnatic issue eh? ;)

That is a credit and shows only his brand value.

Where is branding in Carnatic? Have to speak up and speak for oneself.

Rajesh, You have curated lot of SPB songs. I admit I have never heard some of the songs. A laudable effort by you and ganeshmurthy.

The name Nila has been intertwined with the name of SPB, as he has sung many songs commencing with the word Nila and his music could produce the warmth and cool and brightness of the nila. Hence he got the name Padum nila.

In the earlier generation TMS has sung Nilavai parthu vaanam sonnadu and PBS has sung Nilave ennidam mayangathe. But nila is permanently the synonym with SPB. Two nila songs you have missed- they are my favourites. I want those songs also to be available in this compilation.

1. Vaan nilaa nilaa alla un valibam nila
Film Pattanapravesam.(1977). Direction Balachander. Story Visu. The debut film of many actors like Delhi Ganesh, Sarat Babu etc. A very good film having solid message. But did only an average success because of the heaviness of the story. If you get time, see in the yt.
Link https://youtu.be/uKDtXNrm8vM

This particular song music is by M S Viswanathan. Lyrics- Kannadasan. There is an interesting episode also behind the song you can see in you tube. In this particular song, each line ends with la. That is the speciality and SPB has given so much energy, love and laughter in this song. There is a melodious violin accompanying the song as the heroine is a violinist in the film.

2. Nandaa nee en nila
Film Nanda en nila. Other details I don’t know. Actors Vijayakumar, Sumithra.
Link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTxqj4GBI6o
Music V.Dakshinamurthy.

He has done only very few films in tamil. This song stands out. SPB has mentioned this song on many occasions. One of his favourite songs and difficult song- he has mentioned. The pallavi itself goes like a charanam- so much lengthy. This song was a hit those days.

SPB was given an award in 2018 in Vaikom temple in the name of Dakshinamurthy swami. Here SPB talks about Dakshinamurthy swami, this song and many other things in tamil. A very touching speech by SPB. The link to that speech is given below. Pl listen. SPB speech starts at 1:05:42

Instead of curating a lot of songs , lest you may miss out , I am only going to add one song at a time , or a maximum of two.
This particular song has become an earworm for me in the recent days. The music is no great shakes, but the singing is and hence it is quite amazing. It is a melancholic poem , by TR and yes your guessing is right...

Thank you lovely post.
I definitely have heard vaan nila before. I missed it
The second song dakshinamurthy swami is new to me. SPB speech is lovey thank you. Dakshinamoorthy Sir is brilliant tunesmith,no wonder MSV and Illayaraja and many fell at his feet to acknowledge his greatness, not just for age but for his musical contributions.

I will append both your songs in my copy and keep it.Also acknowledge you along with the 4 whom i mentioned as co contributors. Thank you .

All,
On a general note, I do know say about 10 plus songs which i did not even publish in the runner up as the quality was not high. So as such I am not enumerating all spb sols but only pushing extremely high quality solos

Actually he has.

At the Gandhi nagar temple in chennai - may be around 2010.

I did not attend but saw ads and news about it.
Sureshvv
Can you clarify this please . Did you see a ad where SPB was asked to sing a semi classical concert in Gandhi nagar. I did not follow what you wrote

It was an announcement for a full length Carnatic concert by SPB. May have been on the Metro Plus of The Hindu or Adyar Times/ It was for some special occasion (could have been the Inauguration of the hall). SPB himself was quoted that it was a fulfillment of a long awaited dream.

ganeshmurthy, Idu kuzhanthai padum talattu from the film Oru talai ragam is a beautiful solo of spb. I would have seen that film at least ten times. The film has all good songs sung by many singers. Thanks for bringing that song into this compilation.

I have a vague memory of the song and I happened to listen to it recently after SPB's demise. What a singing.

And this one in the early 2000. So well sung and the song gives a sombre feeling .. also it is anodynic.

I knew that song as i considered as duet. See atleast 4 lines in song you can also hear female voices. This is not SPB Solo. Only humming with aah oo allowed with other singers . Like that I also rejected few more popular songs which you have not spotted yet....

Keep searching now and future and do let me know atleast in whatsapp if you find any more information. Thanks suresh, i missed this information., very unlikely it must have only come in Adyar Times as I cannot see it from my home. If it was The Hindu very likely i would have seen in the event of me being in madras.

Rajeshnat ...I am getting there and I will spot them .

I heard this just today for the first time. It takes me a while to like or dislike a song and it keeps hanging until then. It sound different though and it looks like the musician had SPB in mind. At least that I am sure about.

I came to know about this song roughly a day or three after the last part writeup. The song is
Kannamma kanavillayA | ??? | SPB | MS Viswanathan | Viswa Thulasi | 2004

The song has so much of chaya of some popular songs that I have heard before. Incidentally this movie Illayaraja teamed up where he did only background music

Crama and many others,
You hear the devotional hymn + song especially the whole srinivasa gadhyam as mentioned in my part 6 of 6 . Stupendous effort of classicism, perhaps that is the best of SPB to demonstrate that he is also the son of SP Sambamurthy , Harikatha artist. Kind of near vishnu sahasranam done by immortal MS amma.

Post my 6th part that I published i added crqma as co contributor in pdf as he gave a song of spb singing nandaa nee en Nila composed by highly respected v dalshinamurthy.

I had about 10 to 15 songs which I just skipped as the quality was not as great as winner or close run-up.

I wrote about 10 plus posts titled #getwellsoon many i shared here in this rasikas forum and a lot only with whatsapp group outside of rasikas. Those writeups give a flavor of picking music director and also his dimensions of singing. When I have time I will collate it.

What I require from many of you is spb has sung 10 languages. I have covered tamil telugu kannada and hindi which is in plenty. An occasional malalyalam English marathi is also covered. I know of one Bengali song which was not that high in quality but i skipped. If some one helps the remaining languages that would be wonderful.

Also on devotional albums my spread is adequate but may not be comprehensive. If some one can help i can add

Much much later may be i will take spb duets but that is very laborious . As you asked gm, i will add and republish if it is really worthwhile quality.

Hopefully as I stated in part 6 my focus would be to cover s janaki. She in my opinion has extraordinary spread , i am guessing may be even more spb or kjy. That is 2021 and beyond.

Above song is quintessentially spb . Melody at its best. The picturisation had the hero coming up as unreal . In our minds spb always and does come in and go. Certainly a year has passed dedicating above song for spb first death anniversary that falls on Sept 25 2021🙏. The song has lyrics too , you can faintly sing too..
