Kshetras of Andhra and Telingana

Post by P. S. »

I was wondering if there are compositions on Kshetras in Andhra and Telingana asides from Tirupati Venkateshwara and Bhadrachalam. These would be kshetras such as Srisailam Mallikarjunaswami, Srikalahastishwara, Kanakadurga, Mahanandishwara, Simhachala Narasimha, Rajarajeshwara, etc.

Since ThiruvEngadam was once considered included in tamizh country and designated as north border, nearby places like SrI KAlahasti were visited by SrI dIkshitar. So he composed a pancalinga kshetra kriti on Sri kALahastIsvarar. And for same reason may be he didn't venture North! Except of course places like vARaNAsi and others.

I have been told that there is also krithi by Annamacharya, namō namō lakṣmī narasinha, that is composed on Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha of Simhachalam, Visakhapatnam.

Spontaneously that comes to my mind is,

Thyagarajar's Thirupathi Krithis

Therateeyagaradha and Venkatesha ninnu

T S Balakrishna shastrigal explains this Krithis in his inimitable style in an upanyasam titled thyagarajar's kshetradanam

Annamacharya spent several years at Ahobilam as a disciple of Sri Adivann Satakopa Yatindra Jeeyar, the founder of the Ahobila Math. As a result, Annamacharya has composed several krithis on Ahobila Kshetram (or Ahobalam as Annamacharya consistently calls it in his krithis).

Couple popular ones sung by Sri Balakrishna Prasad are Navanarasimha Namo Namo in Todi and Vinarayya Narasimha Vijayamu in Nattai.

Other krithis include AhobaleshvaruDu akhila, NarulAra Neduvo, Anisamu TalacarO, MalasI judaro Magasimhamu. There are several others for which lyrics are available, but have probably not sung often if at all.

cUDu Dindariki sulabhuDu is a krithi that Annamacharya has praising his guru Sri AdiVann Satakopa Jeeyar.

Some of these kritis are sung during the annual day-long Annamayya Vardanthi organized by the TTD on Annamacharya's birth anniversary.

These 2 are part of vīṇā kuppaiyyēr's kālahastīśa pañcaratnam(they bear the kṣētra mudra-all composed in ādi tāļa). The other 3 are:

nannu brōvarāda - sāma
birāna nannu brōva - hamsadhvani
sēvintamuraramma - sāhāna

The vēṅkaṭēśa pañcaratnam is also composed by vīṇā kuppaiyyēr. Late Dr BMK has rendered these in a commercial album.
