How to save a long post and retrieve it later

Post by srkris »

Hi All,

Finally I found it is possible to save draft (i.e. unpublished) posts and retrieve them.

When you compose a post, there is a "save draft" button near the "Preview" and "Submit" buttons which can be used to save a draft post.

The draft post can then be retreived by going to User control panel (top left of the page), and clicking "manage drafts" located at the left panel.

Once your draft is published, it appears on the thread and automatically gets removed from your user control panel.

Please note saving drafts is not possible from the "quick reply" box at the bottom of the page, you should go the full editor to be able to save drafts.

Please try it out.

Ditto.
Is it browser-specific?

Testing saving draft and retrieval
Works fine.
How long will the draft be stored?

I see them too with my account. As Rajesh said it is probably an issue of not enabling it for all users. I will alert srkris

First go to Full Editor, enter yor message and save your draft.
You can quit and comeback and retrieve yor draft from "Manage your Drafts" and then post them.

Here I am in full editor...

I still have no save button.

(I'd much rather have a Like button)

Hi All,

I believe I've now fixed the issue. Please check and confirm if anyone is still not able to view the "save draft" button in the full editor.

One more thing I failed to mention earlier is that if you already have a draft saved, when you go to the full editor, you can load it directly without going to your user control panel, see below:

Drafting is different from grafting. Also drifting.
Can this draft be saved? Saving a long draft before one drifts away is a raft to save the post from drowning in the unfathomable sea of digital debris. Not that all drafts are worth saving
:-) Let me try saving this!

Wow. It works. Thanks SRKris!

Steps:
Hit Quick Reply.
Click Full Editor.
Type.
Click Save Draft.
Disappear.
Reappear.
Click Control Panel.
Click manage Drafts.
Your saved draft with its topic coordinates appears.
Click Load Draft.
The rest, as they say, is history.

The craft is easy if you aren't daft!
Just waft the draft and you are done!

just now spent 30 minutes in providing translation of a lengthy passage in thamizh ( Barathy) Alas. Network glitch and all my labour lost. Why not provide for automatic save as in gmail?

After much trials, I would suggest that rasikas, first create the intended post in a simple text-editor like notepad, first. Verify for any data or spelling mistakes. and preserve them in a special folder in desktop ( possibly named, posts!) . all this can be done, while off-line.
-----------------
after logging-in, just copy and paste, in the thread. and after checking that the connectivity is available, click submit.
Recently, I made a very long post of about 200 ragam names of Thyagaraja kritis, and if i had typed them directly in the post of the thread, it could have been frustrating.
-----
Of course, it is always advisable to limit the post to a maximum of window-height ( 10 lines0) now!)
