( SOME EXCERPTS)
AV Meiyappan...(AVM) added one more feather to his cap in 1947 by bringing to the Tamil screen the mythological Hindi-Marathi hit of 1943 Ram Rajya, produced and directed by the famed Hindi filmmaker Vijay Bhatt.

As an innovative feature, he added a prelude to the film — celebrated Carnatic musician D. K. Pattammal sang ‘Enakkum nirupatham ninaikka ...', narrating the main events of the Ramayana. As she sang, the events were shown on screen in silhouette, a novelty in cinema then. Pattammal sang in ragas
Kedaragowla,
Shanmughapriya,
Bilahari,
Dhanyasi,
Mayamalawagowla and
Mohanam.

(This song was made famous years ago by another icon of Carnatic music, M. S. Subbulakshmi, in a gramophone record brought out by ‘Broadcast' which had the Rising Sun as its logo.

The Tamil film too had many popular songs, the most famous being ‘Veena mathura mathura...' (sung by well-known playback singer of the day, T. S. Bhagavathi). This tune was later made a hit by the Carnatic legend Madurai Mani Iyer, ‘Kandhan karunai puriyum'.
