I am a German bharatanatyam dancer and I saw these beautifuil interpretations of the song on youtoube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u3PZxUv_yo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW7ujCbbPec
As I would like to learn this dance I would be really thankful if somebody could post the rough meaning of the song, I don't need a literal translation, but I would like to know the meaning of the gestures in the dance.I know that it is about the different aspects of Shiva but some help with the text would help me with the interpretation of the dance.

Hi silbermond7,
here is a rough attempt, based on the Tamil version that I've heard more often.

om namasivaaya - Salutations to Shiva!
chandra kalaadhara - O one wearing the crescent of the moon
sahrudayaa - O one delighting in arts!
sandrakalaa poornodayaa - O one who causes the perfect rise of great art
laya nilayaa - O repository of Laya (rhythm)

panchabhootamulu mukhapanchakamai - The five elements are your five faces
aaru ruthuvuloo aahaaryamulai - the six seasons are your garments/adornments
prakruthi paarvati neeto nadachina edu adugule swara saptakamai - The seven steps that you took along with Parvati walked (while marrying her) are the seven swaras(musical notes). (Parvati who is the embodiment of Mother Nature (Prakriti))

nee drukkule atu ashta dikkulai - Your sight becomes the eight directions
nee vaakkule navarasammulai - Your speech is the nine rasas
taapasa mandaaraa - O wish-fulfiller of ascetics!
nee mouname dashopanishattulai - Your silence is the ten Upanishads.

trikaalamulu nee netratrayamai - Your three eyes are the 3 aspects of time - past, present and future
chaturvedamulu praakaaramulai - the four Vedas are the roads around your abode
gajamukha shanmukha pramadaadulu nee sankalpaaniki rudvijavarulai - Ganesha, Shanmukha and the Pramathas are all the high priests of your will
advaitame nee aadiyogamai - Advaita is your ancient Yoga
nee layale ee kaalagamanamai - The movement of time is your rhythm(drum)
kailaasagiri vaasa - O resident of Kailasa
nee gaaname - Your singing is
jantragaatramula sruthi kalayaa- the base note for this universe

Corrections most welcome. Savitri-ji will look into this, I hope.

Will you need word-to-word meaning? Isn't bharatanATyam abhinaya padArtha?

I am trying to learn the Dance by this beautiful Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u3PZxUv_yo
and I could already identifiy some of the gestures based on the translation. I hope that the text that I found in the Internet matches the text from the Video.
Sometimes it ist difficult because sometimes I cannot understand the text very well in the video and I therefore, I don't know which line of text she interprets.
Of course, a literal translation would be of help, and if somebody could spare the time I would be pleased to read it. Up to then I try to learn this beautiful dance with the help of this translationl.
