Gulzar

Post by ganeshkant »

Yesterday I again watched Gulzar's "Ijaazat" (permission) in DD - Bharati.

There are certain movies that rob my sleep and 'ijaazat' is one of them.May be it is because I am identifying myself bit too much with the characters especially the hero played beautifully by Naseerudhin shah.Rekha's role is also very strong.Equally powerful is Anuradha Patel's.

R.D.Burman's music and Ashok Mehta's photography lift this film to a great extent.

Gulzar shines both as a director and lyricist.

"mera kuch sAmAn tere pAs padA hai,lOttAdho" by Asha Bhosle is my favourite both for its lyrics and tune.

Some of you must have watched this movie.

Ijaazat is a classic. The acting is impeccable, the music is haunting, the story is a brilliant study of life and relationships.

Rekha did a wonderful job in this movie. The picturisation for the song 'khaali haath shyaam aayi' is in my opinion one of the best in any movie.
And Naseeruddin Shah... ah, what a great actor he is!

Thank you for reviving the memory of this movie for me.
