Hindustani Music Tala System

Post by ahilla12 »

Hello, I need to know if Hindustani music shares the same Tala system as Carnatic music or if it has it's own Tala system.

Thank you.

Different.

Honestly, I suggest google as the initial tool for this. Hindustani-music folk call it taal

Most popular beat systems in CM & HM and compatible equivalents. Corrections welcome_

CM adi tala(8 beats)= HM keharva tal (8 beats)
CM rupaka tala (3 beats) = HM dadra tal (6 beats)
CM khandacapu tala (5 beats) = HM sulfakta tal (5 beats)
CM jhampa tala = HM ek tal (10 beats)
CM capu tala (7 beats) = HM rupak tal (7 beats)

Here are some tala equivalents of hindustani Carnatic thalams

Theenthal: adithalam (2 Kalai)(16 beats)
Jhapthal: khanda chapu (10 beats) or (5 beats ) the hindustani teka for jhapthal is: “dhi na dhi dhi na thi na dhi dhi na” the Carnatic equivalent sollukattu or jatti for khanda chapu of this is “ thaka thakita”
Rupakthal: mishra chapu or thriputa thalam(7 beats) the hindustani teka of rupakthal is “tin tin na dhin na dhin na” the Carnatic equivalent sollukattu or jatti of mishra chapu thalam of this would be “ thakita thaka dhimi”
Dadra: rupakam thalam(6 beats) or (3 beats)
Keherwa: adithalam (1 kalai) (8 beats)

I hope this helps.
