Going the film song way will continue to make the listener wonder if is in Shyam Kalyan territory , or Kamod , or Shudh Sarang or ...
Here is something else that may help .

VG Jog demonstrates his tightrope walking skills , ably supported by Gnan Prakash Ghosh on the harmonium.
A brilliant iconic track .

Shri satyabalu, here is a post by Rajan Parrikar explaining the difference between Kamod, Shyam Kalyan and a few other allied ragas: http://www.parrikar.org/hindustani/kamod/

Here is a brilliant Shyam Kalyan played by Smt. Sangeeta Shankar, daughter and disciple of Smt. N Rajam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDmBZKi8bSk

There is a speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech for the first few minutes. Please conveniently ignore that :)

Such smooth bowing and such sowkhyam (whatever the Hindustani equivalent word for it is!). Just like her mother and mAma.

Yep, it is indeed a looooooooooooooong speeeeeeeeeeeech. Skip to 12.50 and the delightful Shyam Kalyan starts.
