Raga Asa

Post by SenseMaker2010 »

I found some raga names linked with "Sikh Kirtan". One is Raga Asa. (Some more you can find here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragas_in_t ... anth_Sahib ) I dont find any deeper infos (origin, ascending/descending scales etc...) about Raag Asa.
-----------------
All what I got is this: Asa raga literally means the melody of hope. As the Gurus emphasised the singing of God’s praises before dawn, this raga is conducive to kirtan before day-break. It is a soothing and pleasing raga, appropriate for the singing of the Asa-di-var,the morning-prayer of the Sikhs. Guru Ramdas’s Chhants ser the tone of this blissful composition:
“My eyes are damp with the nectar of the Lord; My soul is filled with His love”. (Source: Siknet.com)

Some more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asa_%28raga%29
-----------------

The name "Asa" isnt very common in the world of Ragas, my personal experience... E.g. Is Raga Asa linked (historically) with Raga Asavari ( http://raganet.com/Issues/1/asavari1.html )?

Any sources, mored etails, variations, and listening examples (links for downloads, CD releases etc. ...) would be very helpfully.

Tks in advance giving attention and for your support... SM2010
