ADITYA MADHAVAN- MUDHRA- 26/12/2020

Post by CRama »

Aditya Madhavan is disciple of Radha Namboodiri of Mumbai and now learning from Sanjay Subramaniam. He is the title winner of Mudhra Cutchery Competition in 2017. He got an excellent voice that has got power, range and throw that can negotiate the three shayis with absolute ease, amazing manodharmam, stage presence and packaging skill. A few on line concerts during the lock down period vouched for the artistry of the talented young musician.

The short duration concerts of this season has brought another skill of our musicians- the packaging skill to deliver a wholesome concert in the available slot. The concerts of Ranjani Gayathri and Sanjay Subramaniam in the Academy are cases in point.

Aditya Madhavan had two longish pieces to include. One main song- that too O Rangasayi and also a Ragam Tanam Pallavi in the ragam Ragavardhini (Melakartha 32). Instead of the customary raga alapana, he took up the slokam Sath chitha sayi popularised by Bharath Rathna M.S.Subbalakshmi- instead of the raga alapana. The slokam was sung in a detailed manner to present the multi layers of the ragam expressing his manodharmam vividly. Neraval was skipped and elaborate swara prastarams, koraippu and complex korvai made the entire presentation much relishing.

Ragavardhini- he announced the name of the ragam. I was hearing the alapana of this ragam for the first time. A very captivating alapana had all details and minute nuances infused in that. The lightning brighas and appropriate gamakams added colour to the exposition. The pallavi was in Mishra chapu talam with the words- Kalangade maname nee diname. Ragamalika in tanam, neraval and swarams included Kannada, Dhanyasi, Anandabhairavi, Bindumalini and Behag. The entire RTP was enjoyable for the manodharmam and aesthetics in presentation.

Aditya Madhavan started with Manamohana- the ata tala varnam of Muthiah Bhagvatar followed by Nannu vidachi in Ritigowla. Elaborate alapana of Poorvikalyani for the kriti Kasi Visalakshim of Deekshitar with neraval and swaras in various eduppus was admirable.

Shraddha Ravindran in the violin was perfect in her bowing. Her alapanas had content and style. Kishore Ramesh- son of senior Mridanga vidwan Ramesh comes in the Karaikudi Mani lineage and was a good support. His sunadam, anticipation, variety of strokes, patterns all embellished the concert significantly. Venkatasubramaniam on the Ghatam matched Kishore in the percussion.
