RAgA pravAham - AbhEri - rUpakam
Listening to a PURviKalyANi Alapana as part of the RTP.
But wanted to post some comments on their RAga pravAham. They converted and played in caturASra triSram ( where that is there is shankarank ) - but more than that they infused khANDam over and above that conversion. What you might call it - caturASra triSra kHaNDam or khANDa caturASra triSram - I don't know how attributing works in what sequence.
Essentially that is 20 syllables on 12 mAtra - whereas a khANDa naDai will only do 15 syllables.
They did their instrumental rhythmic exposition on that playing , patterns like : take 40 and divide it as 12, 2, 12, 2, 12 and playing in 3s and 4s for the 12 etc. The percussionists replied to their playing after an Avarta gap - some prep and think time
Finally roundup was done by Kumaresh playing fives and then with some odukkams, then 10 & 10, finally Kumaresh ended with a kORvai , last round tumbling down as 4*5 + 3*4 + 2*4 = 40.
But it must be titled rAga laya pravAham though - they take laya for granted. Everything runs on time - yeah?! But it seems it is tougher to keep the rAgA
