This concert perfectly fitted the bill of Bhakthi sangeet. The first two songs only were heavy classical fare. There were no raga alapanas or swarams. It was bhakthi from song no 3. There was no shouting of “ellarum kai mele thookki Govinda podungo” but the air was charged with bhakthi because of the selection of songs and the intensity of delivery of each and every phrase of the song. For the Poorvikalyani song, there was intense neraval at the lines Anbudan unnai naan adaikkalam adainthen Akhilandeswari Abhiramasundari. The elaborate virutham of Abhirami Andadi in Poorvikalyani and this neraval set the prelude for the series of devotional outpours of various composers in various languages.

Reg the tulasidas bhajan, the sisters informed the circumstance. Meera Bai, sad at her plight in the hands of cruel husband and inlaws sought the advice of Tulasidas. He replied quoting the example of Prahlada, Vibheeshana and other bhakthas and advised Meera to be strong in her love towards the Lord and ignore all those who stood as an obstacle in her bhakthi towards the Lord. This is called Vinaya patrika. Special mention may be made of the lilting tune of Narahariye ninna naama in Revati. The sisters are already famous for their interpretation of Annamacharya songs, their diction and devotion being their strong points. The Annamacharya songs in Saramathi and Hindolam had very attractive tunes and were rendered with the right balance of music and devotion. The elaborate slokam in Valaji and Saramathi were pregnent with raga bhavam and compensated for the absence of raga alapana.

The accompanists lifted the concert significantly. Patri is a very strong asset to the sisters music. In the neraval and in many other places Patri played with good level of understanding and he embellished the concert to a great extent. Their planning and execution are commendable. It was very appropriate for them to skip raga alapana and swarams in this concert and provide unadulterated bhakthi laden soul lifting music. The concert was for one hour and forty minutes and there was never a sag in the concert. The hall was full and the audience exhibited their appreciation very liberally. Once again thanks to the organisers. On behalf of all the rasikas, I appeal to the organisers to upload this concert in the you tube.

Thank you. The Tulsidas bhajan was made famous by Veena Sahasrabudhe:

Vinay Patrika is actually a compilation of "letters to Rama" containing pleas of Tulsidas!

It requires lot of attention and care to note down details of compositions rendered in a concert. A basic understanding of the subject is also necessary.

Thanks CRama for your meticulous care.

Can you please stop reactivating so many old threads just to ask that question?

Vocalist,
I am glad you are being vocal about it. The season is afoot, and to mix in revived old concert threads does come in the way of a flood of fresh December concert reviews :(

bkishore,
I hope you see what we mean.
