Maharajapuram K Nagarajan

Post by shankarank »

I did not find any discussion on this artiste. So starting a thread. It seems we missed the obituary too :

https://sathvishayam.wordpress.com/2020 ... rs-of-age/

Now why did I remember him suddenly? I was listening to Sampagodu Vighnaraja @ Arkay and some tone of this artiste resembled somebody whom I have heard in late 80s . I may be mistaken there - but it happened anyway - you can consider it a strange random association in my mind. I also don't know much about Sampagodu Vighnaraja - who when I looked up comes in a GNB lineage ( from his father) and produces exquisite brighas characteristic of that school!.

Now back to SrI Nagarajan - that was in Doordarshan from Thiruvaiyaru Relay in late 1980s - It was a dayarAni in Mohanam and I also vaguely remember a nAda sudha rasam in Arabhi. Hope a recording survives somewhere.

His modulations and way of singing which is resembles the famous musicians of the family, if it is indeed a continuation of MVI style, is actually more truly grounded in the authenticity of tradition over all as he doesn't compromise on full voice delivery.

Here is a commercial recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ww88eTZQOo

One can listen to parandAmavati to get a sense of the traditional approach to voice enunciation that I talk about.

And a lone Sangeepthapriya recording : https://www.sangeethamshare.org/sl/59-M ... tic_Vocal/
