I have this with me, thankshsuvarna wrote:This is he concert he has done in 1987 (karaikudi Mani and Lalgudi GJR krishnana).
One of the songs is GuruLeka which you can listen in Sampradaya (Ludwig's site).
It has 1) sarasiruhena (nattai varnam) guruleka(GowryManohari)
shiva-shiva(tygaraya pantuvarali) janani-nninu-ritigowla, shankarabhranam RTP
and a couple bhajans. I will enquire further whether I can publicly post it.

Sri Padren68,
The kandarpajanka... that you shared was great. I have always heard sri balakrishnaprasad render it in this raga and was told that it was composed by Sri Voleti. Its great to hear this in his voice. thanks a lot.
one doubt though...you mentioned the ragam as kalavathi but the link says madhuvanthi. are they the same?

From Here...any idea where I can download a varali by Sh.Voleti?
http://rapidshare.com/files/8342640/vv- ... mamiti.mp3
You will not find anybody accompanying him though. He seems to be singing for himself , all alone.
Here are the other three in this soulful set .

Rogespost is a bit inconvenient for downloading. You will have to wait before you start your second download. But eventually you will be successfull. I could pull all the three on Friday. These are all as Coolkarni-ji said, Voleti's singing in a private meeting. No mridangam. No violin. I was delighted to listen his few words ("There is a kriti of Papanasam Sivan..." in vida-jalanu-ra). I never heard him speak other thann his songs. Hope Sri Padren68 or Coolcarni-ji have some lecdems.
Btw, TTD's old cassette Annamayya padahela, which is not available today, sung/composed by Sri Voleti . But one can listen to that casseete in http://www.tirumala.org/music1.htm . You have all annamayya songs here including some by Sri Nedunuri.

It was built by Ludwig Pesch, mainly for conducting classical music and dance performanaces. The concerts used to be mikeless.padren68 wrote:The above picture is from the concert held at Sittarangam - Chennai (similar to Kalkshetra), accompanied by GJR and Karaikudi Mani
The tambura artist is late Ethirajulu sir, former instrument in charge, Kalakshetra. He was simply brilliant in tuning tambura and has put tambura for many great musicians like MS amma and Semmangudi sir.He was a good rasika also.

Thanks for the additional details Radhakrishnan. It really is a haunting sight - the sweat-drenched Voleti in the limelight, lost in his music. The tambura artist, equally immersed, but visible only in profile (not unlike his instrument!)....the brick wall and the pensive rasika in the background...
I don't know if the effect was an accident but this photo is a masterpiece - any idea where it appeared? Also would you have a larger-sized image, Padren? I would like to print a blow-up.

This has to be Ludwig’s photograph ,it has that touch. Effect wasn’t ‘accidental’ he creates that mood with his B&W photographs,he takes the pictures with available light, not with flash(which gives flat pictures)and that style influenced people like me to take up photography.
You can see one more picture at his web site

What wonderful pictures! He almost comes alive in these!
Just read a lovely write-up of him at the Sampurna site: http://home.planet.nl/~pesch082/htmlpag ... 10_VV.html
These excerpts are pure poetry:

And:"It is a curious fact that Voleti was more widely popular than his teacher. Perhaps it is because Pinakapani's music is like the sun whose intense brightness dazzles and scorches, while Voleti, like the moon, sheds a balmy effulgence".
Can we also get to listen to some of the great music of Shri Pinakapani-garu?"Voleti was like the 'utsava vigraha (Utsavar)' of a temple-- the deity with burnished golden exterior, adorned with silk and jewels when taken in procession-- while Pinakapani is like the 'moola vigraha (moolavar)' in the sanctum-- sculpted in black stone: dark, mysterious and awesome".

I have to salute the rasika who gave the raaga.com link. Another wonderful site for listening to great artists.
There are articles stating that the voice and singing of Sri SriPada and Sri Voleti sound similar. But I did not find them same at all or any nearness. On the other hand, I had to listen carefully to know whether it is Sri SriPada or Sri Nedunuri.

The piece is in revathi and not Chakravakam.

the young sishya behind KM sir is Vittala Ramiah, presently working in AIR as staff artiste. In another thread there was a discussion abt no mike for mridangam. it is striking here too that there is no mike for mridangam. like the pic concert shud hv been ethereal too.
