I was bit curious and wanted to check if by any chance i have lyrics of this varnam . Bingo the search landed with rshankar lyrics and meaning . Thank you ravi
viewtopic.php?t=10965#p147358

What a choice of ragas for navarasa - very unique far far away from say any ordinary closure like say sindhubhairavi . Mahavidwan LGJ as a composer of thillanas and varnams is one of a kind.

I further googled to find a vocal rendition of Manasa Tarigoppula , may be she was a young student of the mahavidwan. Good rendition Manasa.

Feeling like up a locked up snake bite victim. Hear "Wow Jeeva There" of Sadhguru Thyagaraja from Lalgudi with Trichy Sankaran

One of my personal favourite kutcheri of lalgudi - TS combo. Every number is great in this 1974 SKgs concert.

Ayyo totally forgot to write about this given the website crash 2 days back. This channel is just awesome with many rare and vintage concerts of the maestro. And they are also uploading a detailed analysis of his concert.

Lalgudi Jayaraman did get the padmabhushan award not just padmashri. He got all the awards from all sabhas excepting the sangeetha kalanidhi. They say LGJ refused SK in 1980s or early 1990 as in year 1980 another violinist was awarded . As such I surely think he was fairly recognized . But ofcourse his all round brilliance was just not known earliet , but bit later in 1990s when more of us knew about LGJ other than violin.

Not sure on why this Hindu article is centered on that he deserved more . I am kind of 50 50 as I think compared to many artists like say SKR,TRS,veena balachandar etc shri LGJ did have great recognition. Is Sangeetha Kalanidhi a pass/fail test for having a yardstick as to whether he deserved more or less?

All said nice writeup from Balashankar who is related to Late MKR Sir. I loved balashankar's phrase of this great mahavidwan
balashankar from the Hindu dated Sept 18,2020 wrote: "Sadly, his own reticence, Carnatic music industry’s notoriously small ambitions, and the limited fraternity ensured that his superstar status remained contained."

After hearing the LGJ 90th year celebration tribute which was 3 plus hour recording, Just few points, overall well done.

Lovely tribute particularly the few special highlights in the order of video were
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Sudha Raja choir of taking up a shankarabharanam nottu swaras of Lalgudi Gopaala Iyer . Very well done by the team

2. Speeches by legends like UKS , Trichy sankaran, karaikudi mani and vidushi Smt brahmandam were well done

3. Shringaram snippets with the film director.

4. LGJ- Krishnan and Vellore Ramabadran playing the heavenly sukhi evarO in Kanada with the final flourish where Lalgudi sang the MMI popularized kAnadA swaras with gA gA

5. Lecdem by vishaka hari particularly highlighting the composition of tillana and ideas of LGJ. Many of her references i did not know

6. Jaya jaya devi dance ballet snippets of nalinakanthi thillana that was performed in cleveland 1994 by dancer guru radha and team. I did not have any idea of how the musical score was and i am glad i did hear part of it.

Few misses not being there
--------------------------
1.I wish few violin returns like say what he played for say MMI-SSI-GNB-ARI and bit later say for TRS-Somu-santhanam -kvn could have been included. I did not hear any accompaniment snippet

2.The violin venu veena trio of Lalgudi-Ramani-R Venkatraman was missed. That was a big miss.

3. Could have invited say significantly younger generation or almost second generation youngsters to also brief speak or just showing photos or videos to show the depth of 2nd generation would have been great . I am saying disciples like say shreya devnath ,students of Krishnan and Viji, Viji's son forgot his name . After all they are the future Of Lalgudi Jayaraman

4. Would have been nice if some fascinating rasikas who have heard Lalgudi Jayaraman like say ,Mahavishnu, LalithaRam, semmu86, Ranganayaki , MKR Ramesh's son and many more who have heard so much of direct Lalgudi could have been given few audio video moments too. May be also few sabha seceretaries like Prabhu of skgs, cleveland sundaram etc would have been nice

Any case from rasikas team Ranjani Sivakumar(Ahiri is her id) has done the compere and she did that very well.

Lalgudi next gen of Krishnan, Viji, Anuradha,Sriram Brahmanandam, Jayanthi Kumaresh and his sishya paramparas so many of them .Thank you and take if forward to Lalgudi 2030 with the same enthusiasm .

Certainly greatest and most complete vidwan and vaggeyakkara was indeed Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman.

Dear Rajesh,

In addition to what you stated Maha Vidwans TN Seshagopalan and TV Shankaranarayanan whom Lalgudi Sir accompanied in the 1980's should have been invited for tributes. Lalgudi Sir provided accompaniment and encouraged these Vidwans in their early years.Yes the Lalgudis put in tremendous effort in what turned out to be a very good show.

Received this via whatsapp. Resident vidvans/vidushis in Dallas area all praise for this effort!

An organizer of music who has done mixing himself is awe of the effort made here to combine all the pan-indian galaxy of performers.

I am assuming fairly young vidwan Girishh Gopalakrishnan was singing with the green jibbA . I dont know him. Visually very appealing and well done,.Aurally with so much blend of instruments , i am not able to be in the same gA gA feel in audio as much as video. This visual has primarily an angle of bringing all Pan Indian stars as that is the main reason for most collaborations.

The above statement does not take the brilliance of LGJ whom I adore and also most of the great artists whom I adore. Well done #Lalgudi90 team.

Tomorrow -Oct 04,2020 I will post in another thread where one great mahavidushi/mahavidwan dedicates to this great mahavidwan AND mahavageyakkara Lalgudi Jayaraman.

Lalgudi 90 Tribute
Image

Congratulations to Lalgudi Krishnan and Lalgudi Viji on having got up an excellent tribute event online on the maestro's 90th. On his 80th there was a mega event I watched online from Singapore. This recent event had a lot of charm and each great name came and presented pieces from their heart.

The masterpiece in this programme is the Youtube music video featuring a galaxy of artistes playing and singing his Sindhubhairavi tillana. Here is the link.
https://youtu.be/y-Cs-q9KPMY

I made a collage of screenshots I took to make you sense what is in store.

Lalgudi Jayaraman was perhaps the most versatile and passionate creative musical genius known to our generation. This Sindhubhairavi tillana is his masterpiece. When you see and hear the galaxy of stars featured, you can see how enthused they are to sing this. Easily the experience would rank with the world's great musical experiences from Beethoven's Fifth to the Yehudi Menuhin - Ravi Shankar duo to the great operas we may remember. Indeed we should feel blessed that this has been offered to us.

God bless

Found this viDeo: SrI Lalgudi teaching phalamanjari - sanAtana parama pAvana

https://youtu.be/aCrX3d_I118?t=36

There is a small clip of SrI TMT at the beginning of this as well.

SrI LalguDi is seen cautioning against ma-da-sa and ga-ma-ri over stay/over use as latter would spell kAnaDa and the former Abhogi.
