Awsome concert. Full of vishranti, nice presentation of keerthanas, alapana. I am happy that i got to listen to this concert today. Prince interacted very well with crowd (might be 40??), announced raga, song detail after most of the songs, and shared interesting tit-bids. Deva deva kalayami was audience request, he obliged saying that typically this comes in beginning of concert, and if no one objects, he will sing! It was a good team work, everyone participated for concert's success.
Among audience were, prince's father, flautist jayaprada ramamurthy and violinist S.R.Vinu, and our own nick...

I couldn't have picked a better word than "awesome".
Rama Varma knows that I am no good at mornings --- and I joked with him that I had no complaints, as there was never a risk of his waking me up!
He maintained a consistently unhurried presentation, and combined gentleness with strength.
It really is tough to hold back many mridangists to that sort of presentation, but Harikumar absolutely rose to the occasion, never trying to hurry, playing measured strokes.
RV announced that he would finish with a bajan. I suspect that some of us might have thought that we had been too soothed to drive safely, so we started an outcry for a bajan and a thillana --- with which RV vigourously woke us up so we could safely take to the streets!
Nice to meet Hari! Yes, it was an awesome concert

Hi, my mother is a carnatic music teacher is Los Angeles. She would like to get a copy of Pari Pahi Mam (Kalyani) by Rama Varma. Would anyone know how we can get a copy? Thanks!

Hari,
You are now a Chennai vAsi ( with more concerts to go to, and more exposure for your children in their music education)!
Had you been in Bengaluru, you would have relished Rama VArma's concert there in early January. Sowkyam and soulabhyam are what you experience in his singing. After all the musical flooding of the Chennai season, the viSrAnthi of his singing was soothing, indeed.
I feel a nIlAmbari-like comfort and cosiness in his singing--and I don't need a tillAnA for a finale to keep me alert when I take to the road, Nick
I wish I had made it to the Swathi Festival this year. Hoping for better luck next time...
