* I need to know about this Raga . I listen this Raga in post Tani in CM concerts .The film music has a handled this Raga in a no. of movies. Are karnan movie "iravum nilavum valaratume.....nam inimai ninaiyugal thodaratume & Aruvimagal alaiosai......." based on this Raga? corrections welcome if my inference is not correct.

Satyabalu Check out Chandrika Tandon[s album Soul Call Om Namo Narayana which was nominated for a grammy award 2 years back.I think one of the verses is in Suddha sarang.

In the HM system shuddh sArang is placed under kAfi thAT. It uses the scale of: S R M R M* P N S*--S* N D P M* P D P M R S. An alternate scale is: S R P^ M* P^ M* P M P N D^ N S*--S* N D M P M* R M^ *N S (*=tivra, ^=grace note).
In the ArOha of the first scale both madhyams are used. All other svarAs are tivra. This rAgA is sung during the second prahara of the day.
Halt on R and N sound beautiful. Both madhyams are used side by side in avarOha as M* P M* M R. N as nyAsA is very pleasing. In the svarA group N D M* P , svarAs D M* are quickly uttered. This creates a special effect in this rAgA. If it is not done but uttered slowly it will sound like shyAmkalyAN

In the CM system a rAgA called shuddha sArangA exists but it has no relationship with the north indian counterpart. It is a janya of riSabhapriyA and has a scale of S G M* P N S--S D P M* G R S.
