Dr. Tessy Thomas (born in1964) is the Key Scientist for Agni-V in Defence Research and Development Organisation , Hyderabad. She is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India . Later Dr. Tessy Thomas (45) was appointed as project directorof the upgraded version of the 2000 km intermediate range nuclear capable ballistic missile, Agni-II. Media publicized this pathbreaking appointment of India' s 1st female missile project director and she was proudly dubbed as India`s “missile woman” and “Agniputri”.
Tessy was appointed as the Project Director for 5,000 km range Agni-V in 2009 and is based at the Advanced Systems Laboratory in Hyderabad. The missile was successfully tested on 19 April 2012
