Carnatic Musicians

We still have not identified the 'elusive' Music gene. Again there is the issue of "Nature or Nurture' among immediate family. But there are manifestations with distant ancestors. Pl cite them if you know of any. One that we know of is:

HH Svaathi ThiruNAL ....... (Our) Prince Rama Varma.

While a bit of music here and there in the family helps, it is more the nurturing of it that counts, I think. You may hear a child sing beautifully and you ask the mother, 'so, you come from a musical family?'--the answer is, 'not to my knowledge, no music in my husband's family either'. Both parents being rasikAs and their listening to music at home is a big influence on the child. It also explains that 'elusive ' music gene the psychologist mentions above--that which the child derived from
an unknown ancestor of yore.
While the professionals do research for years, it is easy for lay persons to come to conclusions in a flash! Pardonnez moi, CML...

R. K Srikantan - R. K. Sriramkumar - (granduncle - nephew)
Malladi Suri Babu - Malladi Bros - (father - sons)
Lalgudi Jayaraman - Lalgudi Padmavati - Lalgudi Rajalakshmi - (siblings)
L. Subramaniam, L Shankar, L. Vaidyanathan - (siblings)
L brothers - Lalita and Nandini - (uncles and nieces)
Pallavi Gopala Iyer - Lalgudi Siblings - (father-children)

AFAIK, Pallavi Gopala Iyer was a pre-trinity composer and the father of Lalgudi siblings, Lalgudi Gopala Iyer, was a composer cum musician.

Also - Mambalam sisters, vocal; hemalatha - violin, K.S.Rangachari - kanjira!!

We also forgot -- DKJ's daugher - sukanya... she is singing off and on - hope to see more of her in chennai season

We have M.Charasekhar's daughter, accompanying him on violin.

Was rukmani rajagopalan performing artist (Sanjay's aunt)

Papanasam sivan - rukmani ramani - papanasam ashok ramani (composer/singer - grand father ; mother singer ; grandson singer)

Subramanya bharati - composer/poet; rajkumar bharati - vocal

While Rajkumar Bharati is a vocalist, his elder brother Arjun Bharati is a mrudangist, hailing from the Bharati family.

RK Shriram Kumar is Grand son of RK Srikantan's Elder brother RK Venkatarama Sastril.
The Rudrapatnam Brothers, RN Thyagarajan and RN Taranathan, and their sister RN Srilatha are children of another brother of RK Srikantan, RK Narayanswamy.

RK Padmabha, RK Suryanarayana are not related to that family.
