This year’s winner of the Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy’s award for vocal Carnatic Music, Dr R N Srilatha, hails from the illustrious Rudrapatnam family. Daughter of the great R K Narayanaswamy, who was himself a direct disciple of the legendary Musiri Subramania Iyer, she has been groomed by her father as well as her elder brother R N Thyagarajan of the famed Rudrapatnam duo.

RC,
Thanks for the info and track.
A scion of that family seems to be everywhere one looks...what with sangItakalAnidhI, R. K Srikantan and his son, the rudrapaTnam brothers, and also R. K. Shreeramkumar, the violinist....and now, Srilatha....
To (mis)quote Maria von Trapp:
"Somewhere in their youth or childhood, they must have done something good,
for nothing comes from nothing, nothing ever could!
For here they are, sitting there, taking the world by strom"

I think she is one for the first (if not the very first) to get a doctorate in Music from Mysore University.
May be around 1978 or so.

Here is a rare tribute paid by a critic :

Shrilatha's style is a brilliant amalgam of the MS-melody, MDR-stability, DKP-clarity in raga-sahityaartha and the Musirimanodharma. The Rudrapatnam seal was discernible throughout. Recall that the famous Rudrapatnam Brothers are her elder brothers.

Hello all!
I am a disciple of Dr.R.N.Srilatha, Mysore. Also I am very fortunate for being very closely associated to her :)

It wud be appropriate if someone could upload some of the krithis of the Mysore Maharaja.sung by her. If what has been uploaded is to be the yard stick for reckoning then we are in for a royal treat... Ragjay
