Param,
Here is a big boquet of thanks for that wonderful BMK/BJ Jugalbandhi video, which is indeed a very rare collection worth preserving for posterity.I am thoroughly enjoying the same and it has kindled also nostalgic memories of watching this live on Doordarshan in the good old days, when there used to be only a single channel and still we used to get quality classical music programs to really captivate ardent rasikas like me.
God bless you for your painstaking efforts to collect such rare gems and share it with other music lovers.
Sivaraman.

Coolkarni/ Param/other CMF members,
By any chance are the following BMK songs available?:
1."Thunai neeye kumara" in Charukesi, a song in praise of Lord Murugan.
2." Aaya kalaigalukellam Arasiye Amma", an invocation to Goddess Saraswati in Mohanam.
3."Varuga Varugavey, maamayil eyriye" in Panthuvarali, again in praise of Lord Murugan.
Will be much obliged if these could be provided, and preferably in one zip file
Thanks in anticipation..
Sivaraman.

Param,
That Hamsavinodhini was enthralling. Thanks for the U/L.
And what about the raga lakshana of Hamsavinodhini?
Is it Shankarabaranam without panchamam?
Can you confirm and elaborate on this rare raga?

Ravi,
To my knowlege, yes these are BMK's own compositions, which I have heard him sing at different concerts and they all contain the mudra, "Murali".But may be he was assisted in this task by his wife, Abhayambika, since I doubt that BMK is that much of a scholar in Tamil.Maybe Coolkarni can throw more light on this.

Param,
I was wrong.Hamsavinodhini is a janya of 29th mela, dheerashankarabaranam. It does not have pa in the aarohana, but has pa in avarohana.

29 dheera shankaraabharaNam janya
Aa: S R2 G3 M1 D2 N3 S
Av: S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
(Source: http://www.geocities.com/promiserani2/ragash.html)
Are there any other krithis in this raga for which audio is available, maybe from other vidwans?I am interested in knowing the mood of the raga, and when can it be sung ( time of the day).

Dr.Shrikant,
There seems to be some confusion about the swaras of Hamsavinodhini.Whereas the Karnatik.com website of Rani mentions that there is panchamam in avarohanam, the Carnatica.net website of Sowmya mentions that panchamam is absent both in aarohanam and avarohanam.
Can you clarify this confusion?

(eyes beguile you, mind beguiles you but reason will reveal the truth to you!)

Pl join us at the Wodeyar thread on an interesting discussion of Hamsavinodini!
